Dunno where in Sonoma you're gonna be, but you might mosey over toward Cache Creek and see if you can find turkey feathers.

Other than that, I'm not sure where you can hunt in Sonoma without private land permission.

Blackknights154,
I may sound repetitious, but if I were military, I would be huntin' Vandenberg AFB. 'Nuff said.

Haven't seen much pig sign on Cache Creek but have seen some. Another area to look into is just north of there. Indian Valley Reservoir. I believe the road is Walker Ridge Road. It's some thick country but I know the ranches in Bear Valley below there have pigs.

Indian Valley has some very difficult terrain which makes it difficult to glass.
Cache Creek is more opened but I have never seen any tracks except elk tracks!

Promising hog areas need a permanent water supply(springs, ponds, lakes, rivers, creeks, stock tanks etc.), undisturbed bedding areas with cover and available food supply. Without that the hogs will be transient. But the luck of the draw could turn into one's favor anytime. And huntin' is always better than a day at work. Lot's of folks in here have gone into BLM lands and the Los Padres N.F. and a few have bagged hogs. Some do it successfully many times. One never knows when Lady Luck and Mr. Piggie will show up at the same time. One will never know it if you stay at home. So go for it and good luck. God Bless.

Cache Creek was pretty dead for turkeys this year... I scouted it the weekend before the season... and covered some serious ground... I couldn't find any birds... I'm sure there are a few around, and I did hear reports of a few being killed on the opener, but pretty slow overall... I did see a very small amount of pig sign in there, but it was MILES deep into the area. Of all the times I've been in there, I've only ever seen 2 pigs that were running together, and that was three years ago... I'm hearing more and more from people that there are a TON of pigs around Indian Valley Reservoir, which is just north of Cache Creek... but from what I've seen, the brush is so thick, I wouldn't even know where to start... A lot of the locals have told me that they've killed so many pigs up there that they are tired of shooting them... guess you just have to figure out the puzzle...

A TON of pigs at Indian Valley Res? I've been up there a few times only thing I have seen has been Ticks, and old pig traps in the brush. I know there is a lot of private land around the lake. That is probally where all the pigs are. How long ago did you hear about all these pigs.

thanks.

How long ago did you hear about all these pigs.[/b]

I was skeptical at first when I was told that there were so many pigs around Indian Valley Reservoir... But in the last month, I've heard the same report time and time again... I've heard from about 8 different people in the last month about the amount of pigs... Now, nobody that I talked to said that it was really easy to kill those pigs... They are deep in the brush, and usually come out at night to feed in Bear Valley... And most of the guys that I talked to told me that you really need dogs to hunt that area effectively... But more than a few of the guys told me that if you frequent the eastern edges of the BLM land along Bear valley, you will catch the pigs coming and going early in the morning, and late in the evening...

I was up Walker Ridge Road a few weeks ago... and I did find some fresh sign... I find sign everytime I go into Cache Creek (usually not very much)... I've never really investigated the area around Indian Valley Reservoir - but I'm interested since talking to so many of the locals (Clear Lake, Woodland, Napa, Williams)...

I'll probably do some more investigating after turkey season, or next winter...
