URGENT: Hearing to be Held Tuesday, September 22nd to Determine Future of the Black Point Sports Club!

On Tuesday September 22, from 6:30 PM *to 8:30 PM at the Sonoma Community Center , a hearing will be held to discuss the permanent closure of the Black Point Sports Club, which has been operating for more than 47 years. The Sonoma Land Trust, which is largely publicly funded, now has control of the land where the Club is located and is trying to end the Club’s lease of the land in 2011. All hunters and sportsmen should make their voices heard at tomorrow’s hearing.

This private club relies on its membership to remain open, yet provides a greater service to the area by protecting and providing exceptional habitat for wildlife. The Sonoma Land Trust claims that the surrounding public lands provide more than adequate hunting opportunities, yet these under funded and poorly managed public lands have poor access, maintain less wildlife, and have no facilities for hunting dogs. Whether or not you have hunted at Black Point Sports Club, sportsmen and hunters need to stand together and take on these increasing attacks against our hunting heritage, which work to close already limited hunting lands one step at a time.

The Community Center is located at 276 E Napa Street in downtown Sonoma , CA 95476 . Parking is available at the meeting location. This is a critical event for supporters/members of Black Point Sports Club and anyone who has an interest in joining together to protect California ’s hunting traditions.

If you cannot attend the meeting, please send your support in the form of letters/faxes/phone calls/emails to John Brosnan, Baylands

Program Manager of Sonoma Land Trust.
