Welcome aboard speedy. Sorry can't help much as I am in the Bay area and don't hunt or even know where to start in Socal. I'm sure someone will step up though. Enjoy the forum.

Welcome aboard, Speedy.

Best bet for you, coming from Anaheim would be to look into one of the Pig-o-ramas at the Tejon Ranch. $310 (at least for the rest of this season) gives you two days of awesome hunting. You can take one hog during the event. Lodging, food, etc., is up to you. It's unguided, but a little research ahead of time (do some searches on this board) and some footwork at the ranch will give you a pretty good opportunity.

Other options include guided hunts in the Central Coast area, from Paso Robles to King City.

There's good public land available, but it's all going to be a fair drive for you. Camp Roberts is a good place to check out, and again, you can learn a lot about the camp by doing some searches here. Fort Hunter Liggett is a little further up, and also offers good hunting, but you'll have to work hard.

There's other public land available, but the pickin's are slim. Nice for a walk with the gun or bow, but don't get high hopes for scoring a hog.

Hope this is helpful, at least a little. Spend some time reading up on this board, and also check out Jesse's helpful links on the main page. When you've done all that, and you still have a few specific questions, feel free to ask here or shoot an email. There are lots of guys with a ton of experience, and between everybody, we've probably covered the state in search of hogs.

Again, welcome!

Hello Speedy,
I'm also new to this board and new to hog hunting. I live in Torrance. I went on two hog hunts where I paid a guy $200 to have access for one year to private land. We didn't even see any hog signs much less hogs. These lands were in the King City and Hunter Liggett areas. I then paid $500 for a guided hunt and went to a guys ranch where there were many hogs. I did get a nice 200# boar and learned a lot.

I am also interested in learning where and how to hunt hogs on unguided hunts. I love being out there and if I go out on a hunt and don't get anything, it gives me a good excuse to go out again. I would recommend a guided hunt to get that first hog and learn about hog hunting.

Welcome aboard the board

The December Camp Roberts hunt might be a great chance to hunt with some people or at least get some good ideas. Not too costly. Might do the old guided route and get some on hands lessons by someone who does lots of hog hunting. Or call the Fish and Game and ask for the Hog Hunting Booklet. Good general info to start with.
Enjoy.

I agree with the rest here. Camp Roberts is about the best for the money. 55.00 a year for the pass. Plenty of pigs.(even though I haven't taken one out of there yet). I've seen them and heard them too. I will be at the 12-13 hunt for sure. I've hunted Liggett a few times and never seen squat. Boartracks says he can get on hogs no problem there, he also spends quite a bit of time on base.
