Help w/ Oly c2100 and WinXP

I recently bought a new computer running Windows XP. I own a C-2100 Ultrazoom. I installed Camedia 2.0 then downloaded the 2.01 patch. When I connect the camera to the computer and open the Camedia software, I get an error message that the computer cannot connect to the camera. I've read the instruction book for the software and camera and can.t figure out a solution. HELP.

I think you can upload the camera files directly with XP, bypassing Camedia. WB

I had so many issues with Camedia that I wuit using it the first week or so.

You can upload the pics with just about any photo software, Photoshop is what I currently use. If I remember correctly, Photoshop Elements came with my OLY software. If so, load it and use it to upload and edit the photos.

When I connect the camera to the USB port I get a message stating new hardware has been detected but the 2100uz isn't on the list of cameras under the driver list in the COntrol Panel. At this point I'm thinking of getting a card reader and bypassing having to hook up the camera to the computer.

I would go with the card reader. I did that from day 1 with my 2100 and it is just tons easier.

I got it from Walmart. It was something like $20 or $30. I got the kodak one that is USB and will read Compact Flash Cards, Smart Media, and Sony Memory Sticks all in one unit. Windows XP recognizes them as 3 separate drives (one for each type of media). It makes it as easy as using a floppy disk.

Sounds like it doesn't have the appropriate driver. I'm not sure where you get one of those, you might try the Olympus site and see if they have updates and such there. I agree that it's a good idea to go with a card reader. I used to download straight from the camera through camedia, but I quit and started using my card reader. For one thing, I was using up battery power to do the downloading. With a card reader, you just pull the card out and slide it in the reader. The computer sees it as just another drive (on my machine it's the "D" drive). Open the folder, select the files, and right click to either copy or move the files to where ever you want them.
I had occasional troubles with Camedia when I first got it, too, a couple years ago. I think a lot of people do; I can't remember how I got mine to work consistently, but I remember I found out quite a bit of info on the Yahoo Oly C3XXX club. Now I only use Camedia to find out specific info on an images properties. Otherwise, I do all file moving and viewing in Windows.
BTW, congrats on having an "UZI". I hear they're downright impressive. I'm still trying to decide what camera I'm going to get. I was really interested in the C-740 and C-750 that are coming out. I got to look at a C-740. My problem with both of them is that I want more info about the spot focus. When I take a long distance shot, and can't use (or don't want to use, because I want a blurred BG) a high F-stop to get lots of DOF, I need to know exactly where that the spot is that it's focusing on. It's been an even bigger problem when I've used my telelconverter, but it's just shown me how important it is to me.

Problem solved. I bought a card reader/writer from Fry's for $20.
