yesterday afternoon I decided to go for a bike ride.....didn't get far when I noticed a big black hog in the creek.....I immediately headed back to the house (B-A-C-K-W-A-R-D-S of course) and grabbed my bow.....I took off across the field and worked my way to within 20 yards of the hog.......
<
.......well as luck would have it this turned out to be a wet sow that's been frequenting my property....needless to say I sat there and watched her and the little ones head up the creek onto the adjacent property......so I decided while I'm there I may as well sit by the creek and watch awhile.....that's when I seen it......comming through the tules.........it was huge and black as night.....unfortunately it was wearing my brand......
<
........oh well......you got lucky this time.

Had me worried for a minute there, BD... since we never really set terms on the "bet".

Hopefully I'll get one to root through my quiver and impale itself while I'm napping in the shade this weekend.

Holy crow, Deedy! That's a LOT of hogs, and it looks like daylight!?!

Did a grain truck turn over or something?

Dang Deedy. Here I am saving for my elk trip this fall and all I'm dreaming about is spotted hogs! Like the pics, especially the one's in the daylight.

I am visiting my brother in Santa Clara come October 25th - 28th. Is there any good hog hunting around these parts? I could squeeze in a good 6hrs or so (dont have too long out there).

You know, I think they've eaten about everything they can around the lake and are moving out of the brush (oh darn) into the open canyons of that field. They are searching for new grub I'm sure. It's getting on to acorn time too, we are already starting to see a few (small) acorns on the ground.

It's really cool to see those big hogs out like that too. I'll bet that big red boar will push 400. Those big toads have been out in the daylight too, just a matter of time before they are toast.

I just hope one of us JHO'ers gets one of those "rare CA mini-hippos" (nice BirdDawg!).
<

LKN4HOG, it's not Wilbur- although I'm guessing we'll see him soon the way these hogs are moving in. I haven't seen Wilbur now for several months.

Frook- email me at deedy@brysonresort.com, or you can check out our website at brysonresort.com. Six hours is a pretty short hunt but we got it done yesterday in about three hours, but our hunts can last up to 2.5 days sometimes. October is absolutely beautiful here- it's my favorite time of year. But we'll try to do everything we can in 6 hours~

Kentuck - come and hunt buddy! Those hogs will still be here after your elk hunt! I was thinking about going to Idaho for a mulie- where are you going?

I had to laugh at this- we did kind of the same thing the other morning - put the "super sneak" on a couple of big calves in the grain field before it got all the way light- what a crack up.

Deedy,

A friend and I are going to unit 39 in Idaho. I was there last year and got one. Tough zone to hunt but since I've been there it may help.

I'm thinking next spring I will have to line up a hunt with you. I really like bowhunting those things but a good rifle hunt works for me too.

Kentuck, Good luck in Idaho! Having hunted it before (successfully, I might add) would make me want to go back too.

I was hoping to make it up to McCall but ...
<
... as of today it looks like I probably will be working right through my Idaho deer hunt. That's a good thing though.
You'll just have to hunt on my behalf, OK? I would like a non-typical trashy huge buck. Thanks. Did I mention huge? Love the trash too.

I did find a cool three-colored spotted piggie yesterday- I'll try to talk him into hanging around 'till next spring for ya.
