:pig-laughing: really trying to make an effort this season to hit the lake as mush as possible, so i headed out on the road in the early am with the nasty windy rainy storm coming though. once i got to the L.S.V.C. to register at 5:30 am i headed over to L.G. area. i hit the trails 6:15 am 45 min. before legal shooting light, so i put on my head lamp red light on and headed down the slippery trails to an area on the hillside ravine where there was active creek crossing loaded with pig tracks with a scrub brush area close by i wanted to be posted on before daylight to hopefully catch hogs crossing.

well of course no pigs came threw, it was a bust on that early morning suprize ambush spot! oh well u have one shot that early in the morning to try in be in the right place at the right time! sooner or later i figure that out before i leave this planet. after that i headed along the hillside trail for some still hunting and glassing for 2 1/2 hrs. with no luck but by 8:40 am i had already seen over a dozen blacktails they were everywhere feeding. headed back to my suv after another 2 hr. hike back, so i did almost 5 hrs for the morning bow hunt alone butt no piggies!

for a bowhunter the weather was a mixed bag of tricks for sure with all odds against u for making a good shot, it wasnt bowhuinting weather at all, it was just pure on and off cold rain with constant winds gust 30 and 40 up to 60 mi, per hr. on the peaks tops. felt like i was in a wind tunnel at times! i was well dressed so that was no problem.

for my afternoon hunt i hit a differant area of the lake that had some hope of pig activity, i was done hunting with my compound for the day with all that wind and broke out my trad bow to finish the afternoon evening hunt with and lot better to handle with the windy conditions for close range shots. after 3 hrs of still huntiung i had no luck getting on or seeing any hogs at all.

all in all it was another great day of bowhunting for me instead of being at work.

its just amazing again that i didnt even hear any pigs at all for all the effort that i put to get out in the woods way before sunlight while there should still be pigs moving around before daybeak but thats l.s. for u!
i might sneek up agian next week for another challenging public land wild pig bowhunting session. thanks for reading my report and story! have a great day!....tra

I am so jealous of you Roman, my rig was stolen two weeks ago so i have not been able to take advantage of this downtime and get out in the field.
I am headed out Friday so hopefully the stars are aligned and i can get it done and bring in the new year with my first pig bow kill.
A day in the woods beats ten at a desk~

Cheta, i am highly sorry to hear someone stole your rig, someday they will get their payback!

what i have been doing to get out to the lake more often to hunt is giving other coworkers my hrs who were cut back on their hrs, i have close to 300 vaction hrs to burn so put it to good use and hunt,

i met 2 hunters at liberty glen that had there boat with them, they said once they were in the water early in the morning the wind and waves were to much to handle so they had to get back to shore safely with out capsizeing, thats how strong the wind was yesterday up there.

well got to go to work in an hr, gotta try and find someone who needs hrs for next week so i can get out and hunt!.............tra

keep it up TRA you'll find em. next time it's stormin like that ask yourself where is the most protected area and go there. my biggest pig was taken on a storm day after 8 day of rain. she was 285lbs sleeping under a redwood that kept the rain off her, in a canyon that was protected from the wind. when I spotted her I thought it was a log then realized logs don't breath. good hunting :)

u know Hunterdoug thats exactly what i was doing on my hunt that day the best i could looking for nesteld locations of rock and redwoods and pine tree groves sections with with thick needle bedding secluded from the heavy winds and rain but no luck.

on a side note i have never had a problem finding fresh bedding on privite land and lake sonoma is hit or miss when it comes to new an old bedding areas.
in the last 4 years of hunting wild pigs i have had many blown encounters when finding or bumping into pigs, so thats no problem thats on me not the pigs i can live with that.
but the one thing i have never expierinced yet in the 4 years of hunting pigs is finding a pig a sleep in its bed, i have found them standing in their beds but never sleeping yet , so i really try to concentrate on finding pigs bedded to break that stigma, so i am sure my day will come when i find one sound a sleep beded.

it doesnt look like i will make it out this week but hopefully when i get back to work they give me the good news to get a extra day a week off to hunt the lake till the rest of the season. have a great day and will chat soon ....tra
