well i snuck off to Lake Sonoma yesterday morning to hunt for wild pigs at 3:30am, arrived at the lake at 6am and headed right off into the wooded hillsides across from the Lone rock area before light came up, temps were cold and clear and super calm, u could hear a pin prop!

after an hr of climbing and the sun was up i glassed all the hillsides and bottoms looking for any movement at all and nada. so it was evident to me that the pigs were going to be in those dark moist creek bottoms and ravines either millin around or bedded up. so i droped down to the ravine and side hilled it combing through shrubs, pines, logs, rocks looking for beded pigs but nothing to work with, so after 3 1/2 hrs. i headed back to my suv to regroup and try another area. it was so calm at the lake u could still hear a pin drop at 10 am until i reached my suv and about 10 cars with about 50 senior hikers and some with dogs pulled up and were about to head out to the area i just hunted, guess i got out of there in time!
u should of seen there faces when they saw me with my hunting gear on and bow and war paint on, they didint know what the hell was going on, i was gigglin inside.

i then went to No Name and hit the North Slope trail and comb the hillsides and ravine then dropped off down the Bummers Peak trail back down to the boat marina with very little sign to work with, it just seems that the pigs are moving around alot instead of staying in one area in the areas i hunted.

i really focused on finding beded pigs the whole time more then anything else, with almost full moon and temps this past week i knew there would be very little movement during daylight hrs.

other than that i didnt run into any other hunters at all while out in the field or hikers or joggers or bikers, but they were out in other areas keepin the piggies from coming out, a lot of park activity still going on.

this was just a general hunt for me yesterday, i just wanted to get away for the day, just got a new 4G Droid so i didnt have my Tapatalk hooked up until this morning, so i couldnt post a live report and still trying to learn how to use my new camera functions on the phone. i have it together for next time!

thanks for reading my report and good luck to my fellow bowhunters at Lake Sonoma!....tra

Thanks for the report TRA. I saw no piggies last weekend. All the sign I saw from my scouting was gone. They're definitely not hanging out where they had been 2 weeks ago.

I will be there tomorrow in my Ranger. I won't be getting around too good. Hurts my knee recently. But that may be a good thing, will slow me down!

Think I'll be there saturday and sunday. Tried getting out after work today but my wife said no since I'm getting over pneumonia.

I hunted on a property up behind the lake yesterday and saw a lot of pigs. Killed one. Was impressed by all the rooting by the lake. I was only there from 11am til 3pm so the pigs in that country aren't afraid to be out feeding during the day right now. At least on the private anyway. There was also a big sow that had been hit by a car on Rockpile Rd. Looked like someone finished her off with a bullet.

I'm heading to the lake in the morning, buddy of mine called to see if I wanted to go out on his boat fishing with him. Little does he know the bows coming with.

Congats Bigsurearcher on wacking a pig, and as far as pigs just milling around lake sonoma park durng daylight, well after 50 hikers with dogs showed up to run around l.s. the other day after I just finished hunting that area . But all the park activitiy is what makes it challenging to hunt, that's for sure.....tra

Great report Roman Archer, I enjoyed it as much as if you'd gotten one of those suckers... although that would have made it much better. With every other type of big game season over up here in Oregon, I've been doing some scouting on the highly scarce hogs on public land up here and have actually been finding a little sign and even a dead boar that had been there about a week (and somehow escaped the yotes devouring the carcass) and looked like it was probably a bruiser, around 300 pounds. I think ODFW does helicopter shoots of hogs to though, you don't need a tag up here and it's unlawful to knowingly have them on your property. Good luck to you in your future hunts and I hope you get one.

Decent day on the lake again. Saw two hogs moving from one draw to another. thought we had them trapped. My buddy went up one side, me the other. They must have crossed the draw and moved on to the next by the time we beached the boat (we were moving to another area). So close. Saw deer, turkey, a cow, bobcat and pigs. Oh, by the way, we saw the pigs at 2:30 pm. Don't get caught in camp sleeping. Most of the hogs I've seen on the lake have been in the middle of the afternoon.

Did see one herd of pigs on the Cooley Ranch right before dark. About a mile away but there were near some cattle and some of the pigs were at least half as big as the cows. Monsters for sure.
