well i decided to sneak :burnin rubber:eek:ut to L.S. for the the whole day yesterday for some tuff public land wild pig :hog chewing::archer green:bowhunting, with the weather calling for rain and T-storms during the night and light rain in the morning i figured it would be a perfect conditions for the pigs to be more active during the day after the rains moving and feeding.
i decided to hunt the Bummers peak area in the morning instead of Liberty Glen, so by 6 am i was hiking in the rainy dark 1 hr before sunrise to get to a certian location butt no piggies to be seen or heard anywhere, so after 3 1/2 of hunting that side with no luck i decide to head to the liberty glen area. i had met a hunter who just got done hunting the area and was nice to give me the 411 on what was going on there.
2 lucky hunters got pigs early in the morning ( i wanted to hunt that area first in the morning, oh well!) i decided to hit the R trail down to the lake level, found super fresh tracks and followed them down into a creek and ravine but pigs where long gone, probley the group the earlier successfull hunters where on tracks. after i got back to my truck i ended up runnin into Mamba out there so we chated for a few, then i had to get back to hunting.
time for a different area so i hit up the lone rock area by the archery range and went down deep as i could towards the lake to check out some good bedding areas butt no sign of fresh activities.
by that time of day the weather was clear sunny and slightly cool, wish it would of stayed rainey!
i ended out my last 2 hrs of evening hunt with an area of the lake i never hunted before a super nice trail that led me to an area the pigs were tearin up after the rains but of course no piggies there now! so headed back to the truck just after sundown and called it a day after 9 hrs of hunting.

all in all i had a great day of wild pig hunting for sure, its always better then working!

one thing for sure, L. S. is not a gimmie hunt! it is very challenging and it will be very rewarding once a pigs down! thats what i call hunting!

might sneak back up there agian next week and pursue the eluesive lake sonoma wild pigs with my trad:archer green:gear! thanks for reading my report and story and have a great day!.....tra

glad to hear a report tra, was wanting to hear how it's going up there. unfortunately for me I'm stuck at home till mid to end of feb with a litter of labs, mama needs lotsa food and then the pups will as they wean. oh well I made my choice. lets see I'll breed her in oct and pups in dec that means I miss the end of pheasant, duck/goose and most of LS piggies. oh well 8 pups is worth it. now go pound some more rubber and bring on the stories, and hopefully some bacon, your due tra.

yeh hunterdoug its amazing i didnt see any pigs at all with the unsetteld weather, not even sidehilling on the opposite side of the lake while still hunting and glassing.

sometimes its all about timeing and making the right choices hunting the lake to be succeesfull, what ever it is i will figure it out sooner or later, just got to cover more ground and find new areas with promise and go from there.

cant wait till my next outing!...tra

I was up there about three weeks ago. Caught some fresh tracks right off the bat at 630 and tracked them about a mile and a half from where I originally saw them. Led right into some thick brush. Walked around to see if they came out the other side and they didnt. Missed em by five minutes. They were bedded right in there. I could hear em. Walked around the brush pile and even caught sight of them twice moving around in the brush. Could clearly see them moving through the holes in the brush. No way I was gonna get an arrow in there though. Tried to wait em out for a couple of hours but they sat tight. Was a sow and two piglets. Headed back after the new year. Theyre there. Just got to put in alot of work. Highly doubt theyre gonna be on the side of the trail with a thumb up hitching a ride to the meat locker. These pigs are hard nocturnal now. Unless you can track em to bedding spots its random chance encounters in the twilight hours. The abundance of rain isnt helping much either. Theyre completely spread out.

JB, look forward to hunting with u again my friend and tell your dad i said hi!

u need outstanding hunting boots with the right tread pattern for the l.s. terrian. i love my rockies , waterproof and very comfortable and veritile for different terrain.

looks like the rain will be continue through next week, so hopefully i can sneek up there agian for another crack at those l.s piggies, i would be happy to score a 15 or 2o lb. backpack piggie to take home!.....tra

Hello LS pig hunters!
With 576 hunters registered there have been 19 pigs taken so far. Last Sunday this hunter was hyped because he got a kill right away. He launched his boat, started up the DCA, spotted some pigs hiked around them and got his kill. They are out there!
Well I have a favor to ask my coworker in Sacramento District is requesting a few pictures of pig hunters at Lake Sonoma. She is the District Natural Resource Ranger and has to put together a display. So with that said, is anyone willing to email me a few pictures of hunters at LS. The thing is some people get a little weird when a kill is in the photo. So no kill photos please. My coworker is requesting pictures of hunters that are out in the field.
Well I hope it’s okay that I requested that of you guys and gals.
Good luck hunting at LS!
