Retired military are authorized hunters on VAFB and they may sign on 1 non-military affiliated guest. So yes, your dad can hunt there and if he signs you in, so can you. The rules are strict about guests, must be in visual and verbal range at all times. The guest makes a mistake and the authorized member gets hammered.

Spring time is best for hogs, before the grass gets to high.

LOL... Stand in line. Taking a guest to hunt is an involved process. It's a relatively new program on the base and I'm not totally convinced it's one that that will stay around. FHL has the same quality pig hunts and is open to the public.

ltdann,

I'm glad you saw it as an "LOL," which it was. I know about the other places and one shouldn't want the easy way to the game. Time and sometimes luck play a huge role in securing a place to hunt.

Active duty, retirees can sign in a guest. For the full details, go the VAFB rod & gun club website. It has the latest info, regs and contact info.

Ain't it the truth. I've hunted VAFB 20 some odd years, but it wasn't till 2 years ago I shot a pig. I never really looked for them and didn't know exactly what I was looking for. It took exactly one time for Allen to show me what a pig looked like on terrain and I was off and running. I guess it was a matter of getting the eyes calibrated.

Lt.
4give me as i am still new to all this. But have a ??? How much do u pay each hunt. like what will we pay to get a pig on a hunt? and how much will it b for a deer? I see the fee my dad will pay for membership. What else do we pay for each hunt. I know u can go buy pig tags year round. Is the tag part of the deer hunt were u pay the bucks. or is it to the club/base? thank you for the help. i did look at the website first. Just didnt see this info.
KT

ps . do u or your friend allen think u could teach a Lt. Col and his son how to calibrate or eyes for pig also? thanks agian

The fee to hunt the base is $50 a year/person, payable in cash to the Conservation office. That covers all hunting and isn't optional and has nothing to do with license and tags. It's simply an adminstration fee. You still need license and tags just like any other place.

If you chose to join the Rod and Gun club, I belieive thats $35 a year. The R&G club gives you access to the rifle/pistol range, archery range and the butcher hut/cooler. If you plan to hunt more a couple of times a year, it's worth it.

Pigs are year around. Deer hunting is already finished for the year unless you had previously bought a G-11 tag. They're all sold out.

Depending how far a drive it is for you, you might want to go up and look things over. There's nice camp grounds and lodging.

so i am guessing the only fee i pay is one time to rod and gun.... and than hunting licence and whatever tag i get.

if i do it right... thats $35 for club... and than a extra 100 or so for L and tag. so the Lt. Col and i could get a pig for less than a few hundred if we get lucky.???
is that right ??

thank you agian for the help and for serving your country. sorry i for got to say thank u b4. i always try to thank the ppl that fight to kkep me safe and free.

And, you said I was "Full of %&$T" when I said you'd be pulling the trigger in 15 minutes. As I remember it took 20.......

You do not need to be a member of the Rod and Gun club to hunt on VAFB. Once you have paid the State of California for all of your required licenses and tags, you pay a $50 fee, in cash, to the VAFB Conservation Office when you register with them to hunt. That fee is good through 30 June and expires with the hunting license season.

As to showing you around, we'll see......

I guess I'll have to settle for two bucks to go with my hog--I got one with the bow and one with the muzzleloader.
