Stopped by the old Cold War Shooters in Highland CA just to see how wack everything is right now. Most gun stores are jammed but CW only had a handful of people inside. The ridiculous gouging was probably why. They had about 45 30rd Pmags left, $50 each. $400 increase on complete ARs. I left, told them I won't ever be back. I didn't really need anything, but ripping off customers like that is shameful. The guy working the counter said they had to gouge since everything will be gone a few days. ?????? I asked about a couple prices and he had to check with the boss on what the new jacked up price was. :smiley_doh:

Went over to Wirz Wholesale Gun Supply Shop on 3rd St in Highland and he was the normal prices on everything. He had some Glocks still available, no Pmags but he doesn't really carry AR gear or ammo. More shotgun, handgun oriented.

Haven't been to Bass Pro or Turners but I hear it's a zoo.

Brownell's is keeping sanity with no gouging. I'm taking notes on who's is bending over the gun community like Cheaper Than Dirt, Dick's, etc. they won't be getting a dime from me ever again.

What is Ammo Bros. doing?

Any other reports on prices and availability?

It is completely out of control right now, everyone says they are out of stock or the prices for anything AR is through the roof.
I wanted to either buy or build an upper in 6.5 grendel but can't even find stripped uppers in stock.

Don't panic yet. Obama gave them to the first of the year to submit their ideas, and the NRA has their say, too! Obama has a history of compromise, and will try to bring the group together in agreement.

Bought two stripped lowers LRB (Double Star) on Tuesday, $114 a piece. The shop had stacks of them in the gun safe. Basic M4 complete w/o sights (built in the shop) for $744. I stocked up on powder and primers last summer. I didn't want to be caught short like 2008.

FYI - California law changes in 2014 - long gun registration documents will be treated the same as handgun registration. Long gun registration documents/sales must be kept and reported to local law enforcement without cause.

"Existing law generally regulates the transfer of firearms and provides for retaining specified information regarding firearm transfers by the Department of Justice. Existing law establishes different requirements regarding reportable information for handguns and firearms that are not handguns. Under existing law, the Department of Justice requires firearms dealers to keep a register or record of electronic or telephonic transfers of information pertaining to firearms transactions, as specified. Existing law exempts from these requirements certain transactions involving firearms that are not handguns."

"This bill would conform those provisions so that the transfers and information reporting and retention requirements for handguns and firearms other than handguns are the same. This bill would provide that those exemptions become inoperative on January 1, 2014."

"Existing law, subject to specified exceptions, prohibits peace officers, Department of Justice employees, and the Attorney General from retaining or compiling certain information relating to transactions regarding firearms that are not handguns, as specified. A violation of these provisions is a misdemeanor.

"This bill would provide that those provisions are repealed on January 1, 2014, and thereafter would require those peace officers to retain and compile information regarding firearms that are not handguns, as specified."

good job on not going back to that store with crazy price hike. It would me nice to know all the shops that do that. i hope they all go broke and close up. If they were true hunters or gun man... they would never rase the price in a time of need or try to scare us into buing stuff thats way over priced.

Gun stores still jammed. Turner's Outdoorsman had a line of 30 at the cash register in San Bernardino. The gun counter was 4 deep. I saw one AR in the rack, not sure what caliber. Big 5 pulled their ARs off display and hide them in back 2 days ago. It's like prohibition era, you have to whisper the secret word to get them to pull one out for you. Big 5 counter guy said all the 5.56 were sold and they are not going to carry them anymore, just the .22 ones. They even pulled the airsoft ARs off display. Add Big 5 to your list of stores that cut and run. I won't be going back.

Turner's in San Berdoo

Big 5 rack. Counter guy said they sold a crap load the past couple days and this was about all they had left.

This all goes beyond stupid. Where were all these guys 3 months ago? This is what I cannot understand about people. This whole "run with the sheep" philosophy and mentality. When Silver was $16.00 an ounce less than 3 years ago, no one wanted it. Now these "survivalists" and "preppers" are jumping up and down for it at $32.00. Back in 2001 when 3 bedroom houses were selling for $95,000.00, the real estate market was all but dead in many areas. In 2005 when the same homes were selling for $270,000.00, they were selling before they were placed on the market. What changed?

We went through this before with black rifles after Hussein's coronation in 2008. Didn't any of these fools learn their lesson from that total fiasco? They stood in line to pay the over inflated prices, and stripped the shelves of anything and everything black rifle, and ammunition related. A year later there was a glut of black rifles avaliable because all of a sudden, the threat to the Second Amendment no longer seemed real under the same President. These same people who burned rubber to the gun shops barely 10 months earlier, were now more than willing to sell off their precious AR-15's they just had to have, because all of a sudden paying their over inflated mortgages seemed to be more of a priority for them.

Now these exact same people are right back at it. I didn't know sheep could run so fast! Again, what has changed? One guy, one gun, and a big body count, and all of a sudden 50,000,000 people start acting like idiots. This doesn't scare me. What scares me is how little foresight people possess. They don't plan or act. They react. And they all do it in the most predictable, stupid manner possible.

5 Stag stripped lowers for $3,025.00. And they SOLD! We're quickly becoming our own worst enemy in this whole deal.

It's not going to be that easy to pass another ban. I don't care how much these flaming liberals want to play this silly, politically correct, emotional game. Dems know it amounted to political suicide, when they voted for it lock step with Clinton last time. They all lost their jobs over it, along with Democratic control of both Houses. Also, there was no run on AR-15's and AK-47's back then like there is now. Politicians aren't that stupid. They see how many people are running to buy these rifles, along with the 8,000 a day who are joining the NRA. Every one of them is a "NO" vote for any sitting incumbent, Republican or Democrat, who votes for a ban. A clearer picture could not be painted for them. A blind man can see it.

At this point I doubt Reid would even want this dog with fleas to come up for a vote in his marginally Democratic controlled Senate. It's far too risky for him. He wants to keep his powerful job as Senate Majority Leader, more than he wants to ban guns. He's smart enough to know if they pass another AWB in the Senate, he'll lose it, along with majority control in the 2014 mid term elections. Remember what happened to Tom Foley in 1994. He went from Speaker Of The House, to civilian in one night.

"Foley was the first Speaker of the House since 1862 to be defeated in a re-election campaign for Congress. President Bill Clinton attributed his defeat to his support for the Assault Weapon ban of 1994."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Foley

Gun control has proven to be all risk, and no reward for the Dems. Sure they want it. But they are not going to be so warm and willing to pay such a stiff price to have it again, by placing their heads on the political chopping block. Remember, nobody is more selfish than a Washington politician. But no matter, the sheep will run. And as usual they'll all be a minute late, and a few thousand dollars short. What else is new?

It really sucks we're having to go through this. I really wanted to eventually build an AR rifle I could use for hunting but I knew it wouldn't be for a while since I don't have that kind of money for a hunting rifle. At this point, I'll be focusing my efforts on getting a regular 'ole hunting rifle. I don't anticipate this situation getting any better anytime soon. I'm having a hard enough time trying to get my first shotgun. Anyway ...just thought that with all the gougers out there, they would quickly reduce their prices if nobody actually spent money with them. Until then, this will continue to get worse IMHO.

I was on one the websites yesterday, cheaper than dirt I think, and they were sell 1000 rds of 5.56 mm (steel core) for $999.99!

I'm not a fan of that caliber but that seems excessively high to me!
