Does anyone "bait hogs" ie.. feed, salt licks. if you know that Hogs are on a certian property and it is yours or have permission to hunt it is there anything wrong/illegal about "baiting". I am calling it "baiting" because I don't know another term. assuming its legal, what are you using? thanks

If you own or have access to private land contact CalDFG and see if they will allow it if they issue you a depredation permit. Assuming they don't and you have access to private land and the owner is agreeable the a 'legal' bait would be to grow barley. Barley is great except the pigs will never leave which for a private land owners has its ups and downs.

Of course in Texas which has the most pigs in the USA anything go's and an old trick is to use a fence post and put feed corn and either pour old milk or mollass on it and then cover the corn with rocks to keep out the birds. Basspro sells two types on commercial wild pig syrups but has noted before they would be verboten in the golden state unless you can get some kind of written permission from DFG.

Nope, in CA, public or private land, it is illegal to bait an animal for the purpose of hunting. It is also illegal to feed wildlife. It all comes down to intent. Are you growing the barley as a cash crop, for personal use, or to feed domestic animals? If so, and you can prove it if questioned, you're fine. If not, and your intent is purely to attract wildlife for hunting, you's in trouble!

Why would you waste good bread?

Seriously... don't even go there, friend.

Everything you say can and will be used against you.
