No trying to jinx my upcoming hog hunt (next week) but if we get two hogs, I plan on taking one to the butcher. The other we will handle ourselves.

Anyone have a reccomendation for a butcher in the Napa area?

Napa area Iam not too sure about. Buds Custom meats in pengrove/rohnert park is a great place. a little pricey. Angeloes meats is my favorite. They are located off of adobe rd.

Dave whoever you decide to take it too I would call them ahead of time and get the specs for bringing in the hog. most places require the hog to be totally dressed and/or skinned and completely free of hairs. I know when I did hogs out in Pt Reyes this was the case, per the state and FDA regs. I will be happy to help you with the one you want to do yourself. Actually, I'll help you with both if you want.

Nate -

I might take you up on that and will give you some of the meat if you like. I will let you know. I was kicking around the idea of getting one butchered but most likely I will just do it myself.

Are you free on the 9th, 10th or 11th?

I don't think Angelo's is doing game any more. I used tto use him too and he was great. I now go to Willowside Meats on Guerneville Rd in Santa Rosa and will never go anywhere else.

I had a nice beef processed at willowside. It's a bit of a drive from napa but they are good people and the prices are fair.

Browns Valley Meats. Hands down best spot in town. Their minimum for any game processing is near $100.00. and goes up from there based on pounds and the type of processing you want. I know that when you order summer sausage for deer meat, it can get expensive. I have used them for decades and have never been dissapointed. They work with you on cut selection and do an AWESOME job on smoking hams.

Note - If you bring dirty and unclean animals into a butcher, they should have the right to kick you out and your game for being lazy. Cut out all of that gun shot, excess fat, hair and dirt.
