No insight; it's just that every hog I ever dealt with was NASTY on the exterior. They ain't nothing like skinning a deer. Don't get me wrong, I love skinning a hog (just ask the guys I hunt with) but as a container for cooking it in? No way!

I would also add that a wild hog IS full of diseases that a domestic hog doesn't have. Cleanliness in the domestic pork production has resulted in meat that you can eat medium rare. DON'T do that with wild pork. In fact, if you were to try this process, despite all of the good advice, it is a good idea to freeze the carcass for seven days minimum to eliminate some of the pathogens in the hog.

My advice: buy a domestic pig already done and skin your wild hogs. I'd sure hate to have to go get wormed, you know?

Alot of people don't see the whole process of getting a hog scalded. They only see the end result of a clean hog hanging. Whether it's a domestic or wild hog, the process is the same dirty work.

In my opinion I think domestic hogs are not as clean as wild hogs. I used to buy my domestic hogs directly from the slaughter house. At the slaughter house, they make you walk into the pens of hogs and pick your hog. If any of you ever walked in the pens of hogs at the slaughter house or a hog farm, you know what I mean. The hogs they poop, pee, eat, drink, and sleep all in one small pen. The place smells like a sewer pollution or some kind of manure fertilizer company. As far as diseases goes, I personally know some people that were told by their doctor that their diseases were caused by consuming immunization injected into domestic pigs and cattles. I am more worry about catching those diseases than the diseases other people claimed about wild hogs.

Almost everytime I go to any hog slaughter house I saw that about half the hogs there were limping like they have some kind of pain in one of their leg. Most of the hogs after they've been killed, dipped into the hot water tank, and scalded through the machine, have red spots all over the hogs which looks like acnes and rashes. On all my wildhog after all the hairs were scalded, the skins were clean white with the exception of cuts and scars from fighting with other hogs. I know some diseases may not be visible, but it's probably more safer to go by what I see.

Domestic swine has the same diseases as wild hogs, I would NEVER cook any pork medium rare! Well done.

some people in Hawai'i will start a small fire by a river near where the pig is killed, burning and dipping the pig repeatedly. After burning it you scrap it good as possible to get all the hair off. Keep all the mess in the field and not in your yard.

I'm by NO means an expert, but every wild hog I've dealt with (which admittedly isn't very many) was absolutely loaded with ticks or fleas or lice or chiggers or poison oak or God only knows what else. I couldn't imagine ever getting that skin clean to the point where I'd consider it edible.

You guys are hard core!

Ever eat fried pork skin rinds Tradman? or eaten cooked/smoked ham with the skin on it? How about those beef slaughterhouses that were caught on video moving sick cattle through the line with forklifts because they were so sick they could not walk? Also, there's a lot of domestic meat byproducts processed into things most people eat weekly -- surely most folks would not like to see the process from live animal to finished product -- ummm, yummy hot dogs at the ball park!

When it's cooked well all those microscopic critters die. Of course mercury in seafood doesn't die no matter how well it is cooked. Just remember, what does not kill you only makes you stronger!!

there are no more ticks or anything else on a wild hog, than on a deer. You are washing/scraping with scalding hot water, then cooking thoroughly, not a darn thing to be scared of. Fresh chicharones, doesn't get much better than that.

I cant comment on doing it on the wild one caz i have not done it .

I can't believe we're having a conversation about wild pork vs. domestic pork. Wild pork is organic!!! All the bad stuff dies when the meat is properly prepared.
