SOmebody needs to be real careful about hunting "contests" in CA.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
2003.  (a) Except as specified in subdivisions (b) and ©, it is
unlawful to offer any prize or other inducement as a reward for the
taking of any game birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, or amphibians in
an individual contest, tournament, or derby.
  (b) The department may issue a permit to any person authorizing
that person to offer a prize or other inducement as a reward for the
taking of any game fish, as defined by the commission by regulation,
if it finds that there would be no detriment to the resource.  The
permit is subject to regulations adopted by the commission.  The
application for the permit shall be accompanied by a fee in the
amount determined by the department as necessary to cover the
reasonable administrative costs incurred by the department in issuing
the permit.  However, the department may waive the permit fee if the
contest, tournament, or derby is for persons under the age of 16
years, or who are physically or mentally challenged, the primary
purpose of the contest, tournament, or derby is to introduce young
anglers to, or educate them about fishing.  All permits for which the
fee is waived pursuant to this subdivision shall comply with all
other requirements set forth in this section.
© This section does not apply to any person conducting what are
generally known as frog-jumping contests or fish contests conducted
in waters of the Pacific Ocean.[/b]

Speck, there is no prize. Unless DF&G considers bragging rights a prize.

Bragging rights are the non-monetary and non-material reward for this friendly contest between 2 neighboring states.

There will not be any cash rewards, or product rewards for this contest. When the time gets closer, I will dig up all of the legalize regarding this. But the research I've done so far, shows that we are in the clear. Just need to get it documented to be on the up and up.

Sorry, wasn't trying to pee in anybody's corn flakes. I just remember what happened to Lowell (BoarTracksCA) over something that seemed pretty innocent. I'd hate to see something like that happen again.

Bragging rights are cool by me.

Hell, it'll be worth bragging rights to me, just to get an arrow into a hog this time anyway.

Speck-

Thanks for the reminder, you never know. Good intentions may lead to a world of trouble. The government doesn't really care about good intentions, so we will make sure we are in the clear. In fact, once the rules are posted on choppers site, feel free to go over them, and notify us of any red flags. More eyes the better!

Hey Speck, quick question. It seems like I remember the Tejon giving a cash prize for the largest hog taken on those pig-o-ramas. Am I incorrect? Or have I had too many crown & cokes to remember these things. You know, my initials are CRS.

Hey CRS!
<

Tejon has restructured their "contest" so it's no longer for the largest hog, but yes, there is still a prize pot for the hunters. Not sure how they do the legalities, but I figure they have a MUCH larger and more proficient legal staff than many third-world countries.

Well if they can do it, then I can do it. The prize will be $1,000,000.00 dollars to the largest hog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<

Of course, we'll need to get 250 entries and the fee to enter will be $50,000.00 apiece.
<

And the weapon of choice will be sticks and rocks!

JD my freind,
I like the spirit, just don't call us Duck fans. You know there are two Pac-10 schools in Oregon we have the option of going for. Well, only one in my mind. Go Beavs....
