Well I got lucky today and shot one of the biggest hogs ever so far. He weighed some where around 280 to 300 lbs. I have killed some 200 lbs before but this one is a lot bigger. I was hunting Tejon ranch on the north side. My son and I shot at this hog two days before but we both missed. So I thought I would just leave him alone for a couple of days. I headed up this morning and posted on the hill. The only time you will see these hogs are just before daylight. I was shocked, he came out where I thought he would. He was quartering away at 300 yards. I fired and he spun around like he was not hit. I never heard the impact of the bullet. I shot again and again. He was on the move. I scan the area just over the ridge. I saw a huge butt in my scope. It had to be the same hog, I let another round fly from my 300 wby. still no sound of an impact. All was over now. Many things going through my mind. I missed. The hog ran off showing no indications of being hit. I made my way to the last spot where I saw him. He was just 10 yards from the tree when I saw him go down last. He was down. The bore has every battle scare you can think of. He sure has been in a lot of fights. I thought he had mange at fist but he looks like he had his ass kicked several times. Well I loaded him up on my jeep rack. Lucky it was an fairly easy load. It took two of us to hoist him on the skinning rack. I could not have of done it myself. Two bullets had hit him out of the four fired, one just behind the shoulder and other in the rump. It sure is funny how sometimes you are able to hear the impact of the bullet hitting an animal and sometimes you don't ever hear it hit. I was just lucky today. Any way a great hunt, one of my biggest hogs ever.
