Yes.

But ask any hog ever killed by one, and he won't be able to tell you.

Hell .223 is enough if you do your job. Last big pig I shot with a .270WSM had to shoot it three times and I've never seen anything run so far on no lungs and two legs(300 yrds and was staring and snorting at me when I put the finisher in him). I figure if it's enough gun to make the biggest hog flop over and do the funky chicken your good. Overkill what's that?? If your worried about blowing meat don't be, it's allways clean from Costco :)
Shoot straight and hit em' in the sweet spot but please don't start the debate about what's enough gun again this thread could go on forever.

Use a tough construction bullet and there will be minimal meat loss at the wound channel, even from a .338Win. Mag. I use a Barnes X on my .338 and the exit hole is only golf ball size and we were able to just wash thoroughly the wound channel and save all the meat. And if it is just a 150 lb. hog, even a shot from the southern end will penetrate all the way to the vitals. No microscopic lead particles either to worry about lead contamination at the dinner table. With a light construction bullet, even from a .223, you will lose a lot of meat from the bullet disintegration. 'Nuff said.

Awww.... come on, Bgh! Let's restart the debate!

Just put my downpayment on a 105mm howitzer. I know it's light, but if I use a well-constructed projectile (what the hell do you call a howitzer "bullet"?), and hit the hog just right, I figure it'll do the job... at least on the little ones.

"Hit the Hog just right" your closeing the debate before it gets going casue just about any centerfire(howitzer included) will do the job if you do your part. And that would included allmost any bullet construction also. ahhhhhhh hell here we go again.

Shoot, the Beeman representative at the SHOT Show showed me a video of a fella killing a 180lb sow with a .22cal PELLET GUN!

Anything will do, if it's done right.

Now you are starting a debate on ethics and I would love to see that Beeman rep try and defend the actions of said video maker. But I would kindda like to see it

Ethics, schmethics!

Heck, they're just varmints, right?

Yeah, the video was very impressive, but I couldn't believe they were showing it in public... even at the SHOT Show. Talk about wrong impressions!

Anyway, it looks like we're just entertaining ourselves here. C'mon?

Nobody want to challenge my assertation that nothing short of a .50cal BMG is acceptable for shooting hogs? Maybe the 105mm is a bit overkill... but it does make sausage right there on the spot!
