I have used a 243, 270, and my 257 wby to take to date 22 hogs from about 50 lbs to over 225 lbs. They all have worked well, but I would consider the 243 to be a little light. The 257 has never let me down and has provided a couple of really spectacular knock downs. I think that for just one rifle to hunt hogs the 270 would fit the bill on 99% of the hogs you would encounter.

That first shot must be right on and dont aim too high on the shoulder. Shoot just behind the front leg about 6 inches from the bottom of the chest and your in business. Also, the 270 would work ok on a wounded hog heading away from you right between the hams. Makes for a messy field dress job, but it is better than losing a big boar in the chemise.

I have taken three hogs with my .257 Ruger and one with my 30-06 Ruger (he is on the wall...)
