I have been hunting birds and deer for years and I find myself reading these Hog forums all the time recently...I gotta try it! I have inquired with some guides but they are asking $400+...that seems like a lot of cash for a first timer (at least on my budget). Sooooo...if anyone needs a huntin buddy to help with gas, scouting, hauling, etc. I'd be up for a trip. Or, do you know of a guide who is a little less costly (say $150 - $250)?

Thanks,

Zimm

Hello Zimm
The problem is most of the wild Hogs are on private land hince the cost. There are a few Puplic lands to hunt Fort Huntter Ligget & Camp Roberts are 2 of the better ones if you can get on and past the crowds. Welcome to JHO.

Zimm...Welcome to JHO. Your best bet is to get in on one of the Tejon JHO hunts. Watch the topic below for further info.

Pig O Rama Dates

Go to the back of that topic and you'll see the info on future hunts.

Okay thanks guys! I guess I was not aware that to have a chance at a pig (for an inexperienced pig hunter at least) you need to get a guide, and the cost is a lot higher for guided pig hunt than I would have thought. The couple I spoke with are all booked up though so power to them! If anyone knows of a good public place to look at for a hunt on my own in SoCal or the southern portion of Central Cal I'd appreciate it.

It's not the guide that you need, per say. It's the private land. For us landless lowlifes, we must hire a guide to get access to decent hunting land.

I understand your question and wish there was a better answer. Hunting wild pig here in Cali. has become quiet a money maker for some. It's very difficult to get in the right area at the right time for a public land hunt. I'm not saying that it is impossible by far but the few that know where and how are most likely sworn to secracy. I got my first pig when I was a teen on a guided hunt out of King City and have taken many hogs since then but all unguided but on private property. There are deals out there. I suggest drifting through this forum on past topics and read, read, read. Lot's of very good information from very reputible sources here. And if you do find that perfect deal make sure to give me a ring. I would love to show you how to track them and wack them.
