We'd like to welcome a new sponsor, Just For Hunting. Parrey (deermagnet on the forum) and the gang have pig, bear turkey and deer hunts in NoCal. :wavin hello: http://www.justforhunting.com/

This pig hunt will included the 2 days of hunting, field care of the pig, and transportation during the hunt. Drinks and snacks as well. Pick a date after February on a weekend for your hunt.

The hunter would need to secure lodging either in Redding or Red Bluff. You can also bring other hunters and they would pay for their hunts.

This is a $700 value.

To enter the give away please post a short post (couple of paragraphs) on why you should win this great pig hunt.

Contest will end Dec 15th, just in time for Christmas. Bring the funny or hard luck stories if you want to sway our staff's voting. :bounce-aqua:

Good luck

Oh man, I'm not much for the funny, but I've always wanted to go pig hunting. Neither I nor my husband has ever done that, which is a little weird, considering that we both hunt - we met bear hunting.

I sure could use the adrenaline of a pig hunt to help get my husband fully on board with the getting hounds thing I've been working on. We run with some houndsmen who've been acting like crack dealers to me for years.

You know, " Aw, come on, just one hound! It'll be fun! You can stop any time! You don't need any equipment - here, take this extra tracking box we have laying around! Sure, I'll build you a dog box!"

They've got me believing them, and sooner or later, I'm going to have a kennel in the backyard, neighbors complaining for miles when they can't hear their weaner calves bawling for the mamas over the noise of my dogs. I'll be working three jobs just to keep a pack in kibble and forget about keeping my truck in decent shape! It's already scratched from end to end thanks to putting a big Dodge where the little Toyotas barely fit, but before you know it, it'll be full of diamond plate, with antennas bristling off all over the roof. I'll look like a freakin' porcupine driving down the road, with heads hanging out the sides and coolers poking up above the cab.

All I need is one more cast and I can probably set the hook in him. A tasty pig might do it!

Say, does anyone know a wholesale diamond plate dealer?

I should get it because pig hunting is the greatest thing that you can do, therefore making this the greatest gift that can be given. I deserve the greatest gift that can be given because I'm awesome. Simple as that.

More importantly, I'll bring the beer.

It sounds like an excellent opportunity and whoever is the lucky chosen one surely will be stoked...

I would be interested not for myself but for my 15 year old son Cory. He enjoys the outdoors and when not riding his dirtbike enjoys hunting and fishing with Dad. While he has become proficient at bird hunting ( he has been hunting for one year) he has always told me he would like to hunt a wild pig. I have to laugh because it took him forever to be able to close his left eye and keep his right eye open to be able to look through a rifle scope. He was so proud when he was finally able to do it. I think he is ready for the next level of hunting.

He has never hunted big game with a rifle and I think this would be a perfect opportunity for a young man to be introduced to that aspect of our sport and I would be proud to be right beside him when those memories were forged for a lifetime. I still remember my first hog and the resulting adrenaline rush like it was yesterday and it is those memories that keep us all coming back for more.

The future of hunting lies with today's youth and I can not think of a better way to perpetuate our sport than to introduce a youngster to big game hunting. It would be a dream come true for any youngster new to hunting...

Thank you for your consideration.

So there I was- on my first hog hunt in California. Excited and nervous at the same time. I spent about 2 hours hiking and glassing the hills with a hunting buddy. Had my new Remington 700 30.06 slung over my shoulder. Weather was perfect. I knew today would be the day I harvest my first pig. We decided to hike in a little further when out of the corner of my eye I thought I spotted some movement on the next hill over. I pulled out my binos, put them up to my eyes, and began adjusting the focus wheel. Suddenly my heart rate spiked. A gorgeous sow meat pig :pig-laughing: stood only 200 yards away. I tried to remain calm as I shouldered my rifle and adjusted my scope. I disengaged the safety and trained my crosshairs just behind her shoulder. I took a deep breath and.... *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* WHAT THE FOXTROT?!?!? I couldn't believe it. I awoke to the sound of my alarm clock telling me that it's Monday morning and I have to get ready for work.

:lol bashing sign:

Yes, this actually happened to me this week. I finally thought I was going to put some pork in the freezer this winter. Everything seemed perfect. I should have known it was too good to be true! I've been wanting to go pig hunting for the longest time. I bought a tag last year but never got to use it. I got another one this year and am determined to go on my first pig hunt. So please pick me!!

That is all. Goodbye. :JHO rocks:

There once was a hunter
Who wanted to hunt for pigs
So he tried and tried but
Could never find the little bastards!

Two years of hunting for the beast
Looking high and low
He finally has his chance as
He sees a fatty feeding in the grass
<o>
As the hunter ran down the mountain
He tripped and fell
The gun went off with a crack and
The pig did as well
<o>
Now today searching the web
The hunter finds his ALL-TIME FAVORITE hunting site
Has an opportunity for redemption
But he must write
<o>
College has prepared him for this
So he thinks and thinks ………..
………………………………….
And this is all he can come up with</o></o></o>

Great start on the posts. One thing I forgot to mention was you can bring other hunters if you win, they would have to pay for their hunt. Bring a buddy or family member and you're getting a great hunt for half off. You just can't beat that deal. :smiley_yahoo:

Why I should win the Hunt!

So here is why I believe I should win the hunt:

It all starts with my ultra-liberal upbringing in San Francisco, CA. My parents (primarily my mother) were not big fans of guns, nor was my community. I have been very interested in firearms and hunting since I was a kid, but have had to nurture my own interest in the sport(s). I did not grow up with anyone who knew anything about guns, or have much of a chance to shoot them. When I turned 21, I bought my first firearm, a Walther P-22. Over the years I have bought many more guns and love them all (I am now 26).

I am now working on the second phase of my interest: Hunting! I have never been hunting before, and I do not know anyone who has. I am actually taking a Hunter's Safety class this Saturday. I have been able to convince my dad to take the class with me, and we plan on trying to hunt sometime in the near future (Dad would borrow my Tikka in .270). Having no experience we realize that we will probably get nothing, but at least get to spend some quality time together.

This hunt would offer us the opportunity to learn how to hunt together, and create two life-long hunters. It would fulfill my childhood dream of learning how to hunt, being able to eat animals I have harvested myself, and provide me with an excellent opportunity to bond with my dad (and maybe even cultivate a deeper interest in firearms with him). My dad and I are outdoorsy by nature, but lack the experience needed to hunt. This may be our one opportunity to learn, as we have nobody to teach us the basics.

Please consider us for this contest. It would really mean the World for us to get to do something like this together. We have all the basics we need to do the hunt (firearms, soft point ammunition, and after Saturday hunting licenses) we just have no place to start our journey into this great sport.

Thank you,

-Taylor

Hog Hunt - Why I Could Win

Well, I'd love to win this hunt for multiple reasons.

First, my wife could get me out of the house and out of her hair for a few days. Plus, I am sure she'd know she'd get something good out of it for watching my daughter for a few days and me out hunting the three little pigs. It might be free for everyone else, but it would cost me! (Worth it though!)

Second, I am originally from western NY and have never had the opportunity to put an arrow into Pah-Pah-Pah Porky Pig. Yes, you heard it right. Strictly bowhunting for me out here in Cali. Love it and live by it. It's a challenge, but that's what makes us better hunters, right? I would love to put a stalk on a meat pig for the freezer.

Third, living in Long Beach makes me crave the outdoors even more. I grew up and took for granted having a farm with 200 acres of land to hunt. Now I am lucky to get out into the mountains twice a year to hunt hard for mulies. I love it and it has made me a better hunter knowing I have to work that much harder than I used to.

Good luck to all and I want to see photos of the hunt from whomever wins. Great contest and a big thanks to Parrey for putting this up for grabs.

Cheers,
Al

Well I'm not much of a righter, but I would love to stick a pig with my bow. Started hunting a year ago and haven't got a pig yet, and I've spent hours out their, on average every other weekend, maybe having a gide showing me the ropes or just a spot where pig are is the trick? I'ed go and hire a guide but who has the extra $500-$1000. in these times, any ways It be nice to win thank for the chance.

Good Luck ya all

I was never really big into hunting in general until I joined the military. There I became friends with a southerner who drew me towards the art of hunting. At first I was skeptical about the whole thing, but as we talked some more, he gradually convinced me how awesome hunting was. He invited me to his place in Bossier, Louisiana where I shot my first buck. Now mind you, I had no plans on buck hunting, I was strictly pig hunting, but towards the end of my time there, I wanted to go home with something, so that's why I shot that buck. Nice little white tail, but I wasn't satisfied, I WANTED A PIG! Afterall, that was my sole purpose of going to his place. I flew back to Japan after that buck, and I could not stop about pig hunting. It's not that I don't enjoy deer hunting, there's just something special about pig hunting. Maybe it's because of how hard it is. I got out of the military in 2008 and immediately started pig hunting! I hunted and hunted for a little over a year with no success. I went to all areas of the state, sonoma, pine flat, coalinga, monterey and los padres. I was finally able to bag a pig last weekend though, but due to negligence I left my bullets at home so my little .308 wasn't used and I had to use the guides 30-06. I'd really really like to get some blood on my bow really, rifle hunting was fun, but I need a bowed pig. I need someone to show me the ropes of bow hunting, and this would be the perfect opportunity for me!

It is always an excitement to shoot at a wild hog........no matter if you had done it before. It is an adrenaline rush and wild hogs are tasty to boot. So I am always open for hog hunting opportunities. I have never hog hunted Northern California..............so this is brand new to me.
Whatever the outcome of the draw............we would all appreciate the story and pictures of the hunt. Also, thanks to the hunt host for the freebie hunt and also thanks to Jesse for this world wide website called Jesses Hunting and Outdoors.

He has hunted HARD with me for a few years now and still has yet to harvest a "big game" animal, His spirits are still hi as they come and loves the sport more and more every day! So with that said I would love nothing more then to see him score on his first big game animal...ever!....If he does win and it is ok with Perrey I would just like to(dont want to hunt) just be his big bro and just be there and take it all in and be his shapparon......Thanks for putting on this hunt, whoever wins im sure it will be a blast and good luck to all!

Bigdog, we can run this for a few weeks. Make it a Christmas gift for someone. Say Dec 15th is the last day for entry.
