Hog Hunt

I wish to win this for my Cousin, his name is Tim and he recently was diagnosed with stage 4 Esophageal Cancer and has been given 6 months or so to live. This is not a joke or made up, true story, anyway we have been hunting buddies for 30+ years and I would love nothing more then to do something special for him before our family losses him. :( Tim is a very proud person and father of 3 kids, if he knew I was doing this he would say aww cuz, we can find'em ourselves.

Tim is in the fight of his life, please help me do something that he and I can remember for the rest of our lives. :(

This is NOT how I wished my first post was going to be on this site. :(

Wow, there are some great posts and reasons why the hunt should go to many.

I was rethinking the picking of the winner, would you folks be open to letting the members vote for the winner instead of the staff here? To cut out the vote padding make it a requirement you have to have 10 posts on the forum already to vote?

That seems unfair to new members. I found this forum and contest after it was posted at calguns.net. I participate in the hunting section there and did not know about this forum before that post, hence I have a low post count.

Well, if the guy's story about his cousin is true, then I'd like to pull my nephew from the runnings. I am a father and I can't imagine trying to get some some good quality time in with your family before your untimely departure. I guess I'd rather have fair warning and try to maximize every day then to have it all go instantly with a car accident or something. This hunt would have meant so much to my nephew and me. He really needs men in his life and the few hunting opportunities we do have never seem to be more than walking around with guns. Hunting is a bonding experience for us and something I can show him that he respects.
I saw this hunt as an opportunity to create a life long hunter, which I thought would be a more noble idea that rewarding another hunter who either has already had the experience, or could otherwise gain the opportunity through other means. But in this case, if a brother of the hunt is dyeing like that, and this hunt could give him not only the time afield, but time with his family afield, then I think rewarding this guy is right. My nephew is a very good kid, he helps out other people so much and he is so deserving, but the opportunity to ease somebody's loss like this doesn't come often. I hope he wins and I hope he gets a great hog and it becomes a cherished memory for all involved. Good luck

I was going to make a pitch for this but I think that you should give to it to one of the military folks who have posted.

I was doing some research on second amendment rights when I stumbled across this so called "contest". I want to voice my absolute disgust and displeasure with this type of event and the things you people do who enter such things. But let it be known that I have every intention of being present on that dreadful day.

You're all a bunch of Savages. What about the pig and its freedoms? I know what kind of people you are. You're the kind that go camping and cook your breakfasts over an open flame, permeating the fresh morning air with the essence of bacon. Adding insult to injury you don't even pour the grease out of the frying pan before adding the potatoes and eggs. Don't tell me you do because you don't. I've seen it with my own eyes. You continuously corrupt hotcakes with the addition of sausage...... Sausage links. Sausage patties. Ground sausage. Oh the horror! You're the type of people that would soil a perfectly good jar of homemade apple sauce with a fork full of pork chop. Isn't filet mignon a crime enough?..... then you've got to go and wrap it in a hearty strip of Farmer Johns. I would never advocate the use of profiling, but you're all the same. I know what you're hiding under that thick layer of tangy BBQ sauce, those are baby back ribs. Pulled pork sandwiches? P-u-l-l-e-d P-O-R-K sandwiches?....... I don't care if Shake-n-Bake reminds you of your Mommas house!...... Honey baked spiral, Hickory smoked, sliced Virginia. How many flavors and cuts of ham must one create? Are you mocking our snouted friend? And don't get me started on hot dogs!

This type of contest has to end! I, along with a couple of my friends want to be there when it does. On the appropriate weekend I'll be bringing my .270 "walking stick" and my buddies will be bringing their 30-06 "walking sticks" to scour the country side and LIBERATE THE PIGS! Look for the orange hats.

If I could edit my post I'd add one of these ;). A man fool enough to make threats on a hunting forum would not only be a "Looser", but a "Loser" too;). BLT's are on me ;).

I wish I could win this hunt and donate it to a take a kid mentor program. I would not be able to aford any kind of guided hunt my self but aleast some kid could enjoy the feeling of being in the outdoors and taking advantage of our hunting heritage we as american have in the past and years to come.

Few people know and understand the thrill of a hunt. Growing up my father and I were able to share that thrill on our hunts together. I started hunting at thirteen; my dad and I took hunter safety education together and a couple of months later I was taking my first shot at a rag horn elk. My older brother, however, didn't want to hunt and lost out some of the best quality time I had with our father because our parents were divorced. As we have gotten older, he regrets missing out on those times. He has recently asked me to take him hunting. I am extremely excited to share this experience with him.

Since we are both married, him with children, me with one on the way, it isn't often we have time to spend together (not to mention living in separate states). I want to be with him to experience waking at "oh-dark thirty" and having that first cup of coffee as we contemplate the day. I would love to stand in the woods with him and whisper our thoughts on what our next move should be. I know both my father and I would like to see him move through this right of passage, something he should have done a long time ago. I want to see him through his first shot, adrenaline pumping, heart racing and all the excitement that occurs when you level the crosshairs. I am especially excited to see him hunting because he has excellent experience with guns. He's a certified NRA handgun instructor and ex-infantry I think he will appreciate the hunt more than most.

I hope to be able to give him a call in a couple of weeks letting him know he needs to get on a plane in February, it will surely be a wonderful Christmas suprise for him.

I would love to win this hunt to finally get this monkey off my back, harvesting game; specifically a pig. I've been hunting for two years, racking up several thousand miles on my truck and several hundred miles of boot rubber trying to score deer, pigs, bear and turkey on public land. Hunting has become an obsession. Every other weekend I've hit the forests.

I've honed my skills at the rifle and archery ranges. I've backpacked the high country of the B zones and hit D-14 hard for deer. I've caught flights to southern Oregon just for the chance to get a turkey . I've scouted the edges of the central valley for pigs. Yet finding quarry has been elusive.

I've seen signs of monster deer, turkey and even saw a pair of bear cubs tree with momma staring at me within 10 yards. I've been within bow range of an incredible white tail deer, me with a shotgun, during bow season. I've collected dropped turkey feathers of calling birds, out of season, while looking for pigs. I've seen signs of pigs on public land, yet have not scored.

My 11 year old son has joined in my obsession and has been on many trips. He earned his hunter safety certificate and is a crack shot. He's endured waking at 3 AM, hiking into the woods in the dark and freezing his skinny tail off.

Having the opportunity to hunt private land and scoring would be a dream come true. I would love to take my son and give him first shot and see him take a pig.

Please help me send this primate that has been riding my back on his way.
