Hog hunt recomendation

My dad, cousin, and uncle are looking for a hog hunt. Our ranch in Utah we usually deer hunt is doubling in price next year to $2500. So were thinking of a hog hunt instead. We are in Sacramento, so we can go north or south. We don't need it to be guided, just a place with a good chance at a pig. Any suggestions?

With that amount u can do Wilderness Unlimited or Tejon Ranch... Wilderness has ranches all over California and u can hunt/fish from upland birds to pigs, Bears and Deer... Good luck

Hit the public land surrounding the wine country...lots of places to go and not too far or...head west towards the coast. Both hold hogs. Just look for water and forage.

Tejon is 1400 per person guided hunt. 3500-5000 per season

Look up Oak Stone Outfitters, out of Bradley. It's run by Chad Weibe. It is north of Paso Robles. He runs a great outfit, reasonable, along with a lot of hog opportunities.

If you go with Tom, you WILL get a pig. I've rarely come across an individual with such intensity while hunting. He's pigs, all about the pigs and nothing but the pigs.

If you expect conversation, you'll be disappointed. If you expect pigs, you'll be satisfied.

Our hunt lasted 4 hours, 2 pigs down....and that was a slow day.

George Mavrakis in Sonoma County is a great guy to hunt with, last I checked its 300 for one day semi guided hunt on a 20,000 acre ranch near Lake Sonoma. Plenty of pigs, be ready to hike some rough terrain though. www.wildpighuntingguideservice.com

+1. I have hunted this ranch twice with the group Mel Carter puts together each year. 2 years and 2 pigs. My son will be hunting with George and his dogs on March 6th., looking forward to it!

I had a great semi guided hunt with Tim Lockwood. He is in Hopland and has access to two very nice ranches. Reasonably priced too.

Tom is not an internet type of guy, and that site, I have no idea who's site it is, as so much different stuff is going on.

1000 bucks for a trophy boar sounds about right though. But I wonder what they are calling a trophy boar???

I did not chime in as you wanted a non-guided hunt. Tom Willoughby does not do that nor does Jack Ranch (Frank Hook). Smith Adobe is Erik at what used to be called Cottonwood. That is somewhat less guided. I have hunted with all of them and was the first to hunt with Erik when he opened the property.

The link someone gave you to Byrson Resort etc with Tom's name I suspect is not up to date. Tom used to help them out years ago but I don't think recently. The "semi-guided" (DIY) hunts there are not recommended, there are plenty of posts on JHO about it.

Thanks for the shoutout. FYI, I only guide one hunt per month. I guide groups of between four and six hunters. Lodging included. My current price is $300 "Flat Fee" per hunter plus $200 Kill Fee per pig. Non-hunting guests can come stay at the house for $100 per person. December 2015: Zero Pigs
January 2016: Two Pigs

The success rate has definitely gone down since when I first started the business in January 2014. When I first started guiding, the pigs used to walk around like they owned the place. These days, there are still pigs, and almost every hunt results in at least one or two pigs being harvested from the property.
