I'm back from the hunt and all four of us got our hogs. I was shooting for two but only connected on one, a nice meat pig. The sow I shot was 175lbs. My Brother-in-law shot his 1st hog with his 30-30, a 138lb boar. He got skunked last year so it was cool to see him get one. I watched it all at about 300yrds away as the guide and he made there stalk. The hog went down with the shot. I jumped up and cheered for him. The guide and him "hi-fived" and the boar got up and ran.....he looked to me and them like he was hit solid but turned out to be shot in the throat so the guide nailed him in the back and dropped in at 100+ yrds running. I was real happy that he got a pig. He was the last of us to score. The 1st hog was shot by a friend from church who also shot his 1st hog, a 225lb boar. He shot that one the 1st night and I was on a ridge by myself so I didn't get in on the action. He had a real impressive head and shoulders but teeth were just over an inch. The second hog was shot by me 500 times,LOL. I did shoot it 5 times but only needed 2 as the 1st shot was down hill steep at 35yrds and I hit her low on the right front leg she spun 180deg and the second took out her heart BUT she took off away from me like she had 4 good legs and a heart. I nailed her in the lower right ham just as she crossed a small ditch and she fell back into it. When she tried to get up I guess I pumped 2 more into her and she finally expired. I hated wounding her on the 1st shot but the hogs were suppose to appear about 60-70 yards away on a trail but they turned under us where we couldn't see them and showed up right under us at about 35 yards so the guys using there shooting sticks were out of position kinda. We expected them to be out and away not down below. I would have used my 44mag had I known what was coming. The 1st guy shot and missed and I waited for the second shot before I pulled the trigger but I'm guessing my Bro-in-law was hampered by his shooting sticks so when our guild yelled "shoot shoot" I did. I was the 3rd shooter but shot second as too much time passed before shot #2. While all that was going on my other bud from church, who later told me his 1st shot was at my hog and he missed, was shooting at a smaller red pig. He wounded it and it ran off...so did he and the guild. they ran over a mile, no joke, chasing this hog and when he caught up to it he nailed it at a 100 yards and put it down. bad 1st two shots, heckuva 3rd shot AFTER running over a mile. I couldn't have ran that let alone made a good shot. He is a fireman in really really good shape. Later the night my Bro-in-law got his hog and we all had our pigs but I had a second tag to fill so I went out the next morning and chased a group of hogs around but never got a shot. It was exciting but we just kept one step behind 'em and that's hunting. On my hog I was shooting 130gr win silvertips and for some reason they just stop shooting well in my gun. It was too close to hunting time to change loads so that's what I hunted with. After checking my hog they did better than I thought but confidence is a big part of shooting and I didn't know whether or not I was hitting her well or if the bullets were too light. I got alotta flack for shooting so much but I hit her every time it's not like I was missing. I did later swap loads and tried the 150 power points and my gun likes them, but never got a chance to test them on a pig. It was a great weekend and I successfully got 2 more people hooked for life on hunting and added one new gun owner the the picture.
I would love to post pics but they are too big to upload so if anyone can help I'd love to share 'em.

Cool deal! Where'd ya go? Who'd ya hunt with?

Seems like I remember you asking about a guide service a little while back, but can't recall who it was.

Jack Ranch wild pig hunts is where we went and the guide was Marc Tognazzini. The outfitter is Bert Claasen. He(Marc) is a really good guide. He gives me alotta crap but it's well worth it, he knows his stuff. The area is in Parkfield. We had rain the 1st night and cold weather the rest of the hunt with some dence fog one morning and we all still got our hogs.

Is Marc Tognazzini related to the Fish & Game warden that has made bunch of high profile game violation arrests in the past couple of years?

Congrats on your hunt. I hunted with Marc about a 1 1/2 years ago, great hunt and Marc was great to be around. Thought he told me his dad was a commerical fisherman in the Morro Bay area. Anyhow congrats again.

The one on the ground in the rain was the big boar shot the 1st night and the one hanging was my Bro- in- law's boar(his 1st), you can see where the Barns TSX got him from the backside and dropped him. This trip was different in that all hogs shot took multiple rounds to take down and last year all hogs dropped with one shot each. They are tough critters! OH yeah and Thank you for your resizing help!!!
