I'm going on a wild hog hunt here in georgia at a hunting plantation. One of the hunts is a guaranteed trophy 200lb+ boar. Only thing is that it is fenced in. I don't like the idea of hunting fenced in areas, but its hunting i've never tried. If i do decide to do this hunt, will a big boar be any good to eat?

They have a free range hunt for hogs that you can kill unlimited hogs. They don't guarantee this one, but they say your chances are very high because their coming to feeders pretty hard. I don't want to mount a boar. I'm just doing it for the hunt and for the meat.

What should i do?

duc.. I am sure they are not all this way, but I have not like the "big" boars that I have eaten... Tuff and tasted like crap... There will be someone post right behind me about how they are fine to eat, but in my experiences I did not like them....

Could go either way on the meat. If you are not mounting it and are going for meat, why do a fenced hunt. If there are plenty of hogs coming into feeders, go there and try and pick yourself a nice 150 pounder, it will be better eating and you won't be inside a fence ! Just my

depends on alot of variables......what they eat, temperature, did you get it dressed and cooled quickly ect. ect. I've killed several boars and sows over #200 and most were quite edible with a few that would match store bought.......the last hogs we killed were a couple of sows over 200 pounds.......the meat was kinda tough but had a real good flavor.

If it was me, i'd do just what BDB said. Go for the smaller hogs, and take 2 if you just hunting for the meat. I killed some big hogs, and the smaller ones were always more tender and tasted a lot better. Yes, it does matter what the eat, but overall I think the smaller ones are better.

Thanks for all the responses. I called this morning and scheduled me and a buddy from work for a hunt Saturday Jan.15 (next week)

& I'm hunting the free range hogs. He said being that i'm hunting all day, i might get a big one anyway. He said he's got 6 stands that he's going to pour heavy amounts of corn and some kind of stuff called "Hog Wild". I'm really getting pumped. He said he had a deer hunter miss a big boar and caught all the footage on tape on one of the 6 stands. Thanks everyone, duc
