Well, the way I see it...its 10 times more satisfying to take an animal when it's all you, than it is to take one with the combined efforts of you and a professional. AND if it takes 10 times longer to do so, it would be even except for the extra 9 hunting experiences you would have missed by taking a pro. Now, if you take something like the Pig-O-Rama, well, you could say you get the best of both worlds in that you have the satisfaction along with a greater chance of success.
I love hunting public land, but I have been tempted to go to places like Tejon. I doubt seriously that I will ever take a guided hunt.
BTW, I've been to Laguna/Sweetwater so many times now, I could probably guide it myself. Here's my suggestions:
1. Go only on weekdays
2. AM go WAAAYYYY back into the canyons on the Laguna side (you will have to camp to get there early enough)
3. PM watch the private land (the one that's between Laguna and Sweetwater) where the heavy brush leads into the oak grassland on the Sweetwater side.
