Is there any place other than Liggett to go hunting on public land? I wanted to go for President's day weekend but will not have enough time to send in the application for the permit in order to go. :reagan-bangin-head: Thats what i get for not sending it on time. Any help will be appreciated.

There are a few BLM and National Forest spots near Coalinga, CA. Call the regional BLM office for maps and more information.

Go back one page to the top of the pig and javelina hunting page and there are links pinned to helpful info jesse has put together especially on hunting public lands... IMHO, FHL and Camp Bob are two of the best because they are not open every day and the game gets rested, and there is usually good permanent water, then the BLM land. The BLM land is usually pretty large in size but marginal for game because of lack of water or prime food, but it tends to be very brushy making for good cover.
Good luck...

Norcal,

Laguna Mountain BLM is my favorite, but it's been 30 years since I shot anything there. I used to have a Beagle male that was quite a bit larger than the average Beagle. Probably, a hound mix bred by someone. That dog was so loud that everyone on the mountain could hear him. The pigs were down in Miller Canyon in those days. Glass off to the right while on the way up to the summit.

I found a picture from the top of Laguna

Centeralcali posted a good picture from the top of Laguna Mountain in this thread:

Miller Canyon is off to the left in this picture. As you can see, a casual hike along the fire road up to the summit wont find pigs. It takes a full day of glassing and looking for only a pig's tail to twitch or nose peaking out of the brush. That's the easy part, then comes the stalk. Stalking a wised-up pig is almost impossible.
