I am up in MN and want to try hog hunting, i dont care about size of hog or anything just want to try something different and get some meat for the frig. Not looking to spend a ton either, have looked at some texas ranchs but they are pretty spendy, any help would be great

TX has an awful lot of reasonably priced hog hunts, with the bonus there being that most places allow you to kill multiple hogs on a single hunt. Out of state hunters only pay about $45 for license, and there's no limit on hogs. There's also very little regulation about how you take them... bows, rifles, airguns, handguns, knives, or just catch and release!

Check out the hog hunt deal from Borderbandit on this forum. A little more research will show you a lot of great opportunities, if his deal isn't what you were looking for.

Florida and SC also have some good hog hunts at a "reasonable" price. Can't recall the cost of a non-res, short-term license, but I don't think they were particularly bad. Last time I hunted SC, I think the whole trip, including lodging, hunting for deer and hogs, guides, and license, were under $500.

I would never recommend CA to an out-of-state hog hunter, unless you want the experience of hunting hogs in CA (very different from most other states). It costs a bit for the license (in the neighborhood of $125 last year, I think), and guided hunts are pricey. It's an incredible place to hunt hogs, and my favorite... but if budget is an issue, it's not for you.

I'm fairly certain that there are preserve hunts in MN where you can go as well. Some folks don't care for that type of hunting, but it offers an option in places that don't have the kind of game you're after.

I believe you can also check with your state's game department, to see about feral hog populations in MN. I know there are some up there, but have no idea about realistic hunting opportunities.

Good luck!

CHECK OUT NORTH AMERICAN OUTFITTERS WILD HOG HUNT IN TEXAS. THEY OFFER A $1 HUNT DEAL ON HOGS. THEY ARE AN ADVERTISER ON THIS SITE AS WELL. I WENT OUT THERE LAST YEAR 08' AND HAD A BLAST. IT IS FENCED IN HOWEVER, THEY HAVE TRAPS ON THE PERIMETER THAT GRAB THE WILD ONES AND KEEP THEM IN. THEY DON'T SEEM TO STAY LONG ONCE IN THE PROPERTY.

I'M NOT BIG ON THAT THEORY ALTHOUGH IT IS A HUGE CHUNK OF PROPERTY AND YOU HAVE TO GO FIGURE IT OUT AND CHASE EM DOWN. GREAT LITTLE LODGE TO HANG YOUR HAT, FINE FOOD AND YOU HUNT 24/7 AS YOUR HEART WILL ALLOW.

I WHACKED A FEW AND HAD A GREAT TIME AND WOULD DEFINITLY GO BACK SOME TIME SOON.

BEST OF LUCK

Jesse, the North American Outfitters ad pops up in the google ads on a regular basis... they're not sponsors, but they do "advertise" here.

SPECTR17 & HATCHET1,

THE NORTH AMERICAN OUTFITTERS SITE IS THE SAME AS THE ONE ON THE HEADER FOR THIS PAGE "WILDHOGHUNTTEXAS.COM" SORRY I GOT THE NAME WRONG. IT IS ACTUALLY THE GOOGLE AD THAT HAS IT, I NOW SEE THE LIST OF SPONSORS ON THE TOP RIGHT.

YOU ARE CORRECT IN THAT THE $1 IS TO GET YOU TO CALL. IT COST $246 WITH ALL THE STUFF THEY STICK YOU WITH AND ADDITIONAL PIGS WERE ONLY $100. IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS IT IS A PRETTY CHEAP HUNT TO STACK UP A PILE OF PORK SAUSAGE.

I JUST GOT BACK FROM PASO ROBLES YESTERDAY AND WITH $600 PER HOG AND ANY PROCESSING, TRIP COST ETC... YOU END UP AROUND $800 TO $1,000 PER HOG. I BAGGED TWO AND IT IS EXPENSIVE TO GO THAT WAY BUT WHEN THE URGE COMES I GOTTA GO GET IT DONE.

THANKS GUYS
