Myself & wyokid were out hog hunting one day with the dogs. As we were walking along a game trail, we got a foul smell of something dead. Well we decided to go check it out. As we got closer we started to see alot of hog tracks in the trail. Finally we saw what was making that aweful smell. It was a dead cow. Then we saw some movement! There was about 5 hogs eating the dead cow. We sent the dogs after the hogs and they all took off except one. It ran up inside the dead cow. After laughing for a few minutes we then tried to get the hog out of the cow, but it would not budge. So I dug out the camera & wyokid went around and pulled open the cow. I snapped one picture. If you look closely you can see the spotted pig looking out.

Pigs love dead cows. Whenever we find a kill, we watch it for a couple weeks(depending on how fast it gets cleaned up) for hog activity. My dad killed a really big boar on a kill a few years back.

That's a classic picture. I saw one run out of a cow carcass down near Coalinga one evening.

Kinda nasty, when you think about it, but if any of the pigs I ever shot had been eating carrion, I sure couldn't taste it.

great picture, we have caught a couple inside of dead cows along the pecos river in new mexico.
pretty nasty, they usually come out looking like they are covered in quacomole and smell so bad I hardly wanted to get close enough to leash the dogs and get away.

Could be beef in pork in beef.

Or even beef in pork in beef in pork in beef in pork....

Which came first: The pork or the beef?

Mind boggling...

Ok. I'll stop.

I'vee seen that same thing too up in King City. A hog was up inside a dead cow eating it from the inside out. None of us wanted to shoot it either. They'll eat anything. I once saw one eating a live kingsnake that was about 4 ft long. He had it in its mouth and the snake was still wiggling all over as the pig tried to choke it down. I let that one walk too.

Pigs are omnivorous, they will eat anything. This brings up a good argument in the pig vs. deer populations and how they relate to Mt. lions. If you think about it, how many deer does an adult lion kill a year? Many people say they need to kill about 1 a week. They feed on it until they are full and then bury it until they need to come back and feed again. Say, in a few days. Well, in areas with good hog populations, quite often before the lion comes back, the pigs have found the carcass and finished it off. The lion comes back to his kill only to find out that it is all gone. Then the lion needs to kill again. Of course, the lion can supplement his diet with a few hogs when there is an abundance of them but still, he will go after another deer as soon as a chance presents itself. That is why you should shoot every lion you see! with your camera of course!

If you like crab & shrimp, most of what they eat is dead & rotton on the bottom of the ocean.
