the shield is made up of mostly scar tissue like subtance it can be very thick it covers the bones on the front and over laps about 2-3 inches both forward and behind the front leg. i have skined a few hogs where the shield was 3 inches thick i have even removed a bullet from one that only pentrated about 2 inches into the shield and did no dammage to the shoulder. so i would avoid shoulder shots if you can,Originally posted by lawdog@May 3 2004, 07:14 AM
Thank you!
What makes up the "shield" on a big boar? Is it the shoulder bone or is it something else? Where area does it cover?
Thanks.
