My nephew and I were deer hunting D11, along the Santa Clara Truck trail east of Bear Divide. And no deer, of course, but low and behold at about 5500 feet elevation hog tracks, big hog tracks. We couldn’t believe it! These were the real deal. I was stupid for not taking some pictures, but they were definitely hog tracks. A2

If it’s dry and the ground is hard I have a hard time distinguishing a hog track and a deer track. Younger hogs have hoof prints that are very similar to a deer. I will follow the tracks to see if they go under a low branch or into a smaller opening of heavy brush that deer are to big for. I like hunting after rains or during the winter when the ground is soft or muddy. The hogs can run but they leave a really good trail for me to follow. Its a good idea to take pictures, not just to post but so you can compare to pictures of tracks that are online. The more you study hogs the better hunter you become. Powdery, sandy soil, the hog tracks were mixed with deer tracks. At least 2/3 again larger in size than the deer. I have seen hog prints, in the area around Fort Tejon on public land. No mistaking it, hogs. Amazing! A2

Then there is no reason not to go up there for some hog hunting. Lots of members on the forum live around there and are eager to get a hog. That area is not that large that the hogs can’t be found.

Unless there is water up there they may have been just passing through but in any case worth checking out good luck out there
