Hogs Being Elusive

The hogs are at the ranch I am currently hunting but I need the days to get longer and the nights shorter. Had the trail camera up for three days and got pictures of 8 hogs but all at night from 7PM to 6am. With the over 12 hours of darkness they are being elusive. Just a matter of time before one slips up. Three weeks ago there was little sign and now the place is tore up as they attack the acorns.

Gets green and soft, sure makes it hard to pattern them. The one picture looks like a pig highway though!

Jerry - my place in Lake County is about the same. Lots of rooting now that the ground is soft, tons of acorns on the ground, but the hogs have mainly been active during the night. I'm hoping for a break in the rains before year end to get out again.

There is lots of hunting pressure. It is hunted three times a week. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We only allow three hunters at a time though.

well hopefully you are able to catch one of those elusive pigs........Been hunting cache creek for about 1 month now and finally got one yesterday bout 300lbs.........Good Luck

Jerryt...if i hunted there...wat i do is work the beddin area at daybreak...somtimes those pigs will still b rootin around just bfore they go bed...i ve caught lot slippin lik tha...u just need to determin where they beddin down...goodluck

wow what tease those photos are so fresh, yeh i would try to find there bedding area too it would be most likely they should be bedded up after an 1 1/2 after sunrise and u can sneek in and pop one in a dirt nap, that would be nice...tra

this time of year the pigs are tough to pattern..
theres water everywhere right now...beat the trails and find the freshest sign..
I found pigs rooting much lower near the base of the mountain and at 12 noon...
they might not be completely nocturnal. thier just working the entire mountainside
and they arent making long trips back from waterholes at first light...
walk the freshest tracks take ten steps then stop and listen theyll just appear
this is the best time of the year to hunt pigs... best of luck to you jerry

Switched things up and hit the Ranch for an evening hunt. Found 9 bucks, 6 does, but no pigs. They are continuing to root up the same areas and have started hitting other areas. The hardest part is these pigs do not bed on the ranch. None the less it was another great evening out in Mother Nature. Going to give it a break and hit anotehr Ranch further north on the 26th and 27th that is much larger and has a good population of quail and pigs.

This particular one is Rancho Chimales. I'll be heading to Mosby at the end of the month. I've taken multiple pigs off all the ranches.

Try benz...the only thing is its just steep but the good thing is it borders tejon ranch...i just lov tha ranch bcuz u can c all sorts of animalz frm elk pig turkey to mtn lion... well good luck to u...

Yes hunted that before. I've been there twice. It is a 5 hour drive for me and both times I have taken multiple days off work so I could stay longer. Both trips I was done a 1/2 hour after arriving and turned around and went home

The pigs are not bedding on the ranch except a few on the back side by the lake that borders it. You can not go 50 yards without seeing the sign that they were there the night before. They are primarily bedding on the ranch across the creek. They will need prolonged heat to move during the daylight hours for water.
