I usually don't post much, but I had such a great weekend that I decided to post some pictures. Wife has been asking me to fill the freezer(ran out of venison and pork last month). I usually go on 1 guided pig hunt every year and try to fill in the rest of the year with bird hunting and deer hunting in D3. Spent the weekend up in D3 hunting deer on a private ranch. Took a nice wide forked horn on Saturday and was feeling pretty good. I had booked a pig hunt on monday and figured I would just try to fill the freezer. Rushed home on Sunday and started packing for Monday's pig hunt.

Met the guide at about 6AM and drove to the ranch. Got through the paperwork and started driving the ranch. We immediately spotted 4-5 pigs about 400 yards away. I tried to put the stalk on them, but they disappeared. We saw a small hog headed up the hill, but decided to let him go. About an hour later we spotted a lone hog moving at a pretty good pace into a drainage. I hustled to get into position for a shot, but he was into the thick stuff before I could get him in my sights. Spend the next 4 hrs looking for hogs with no success. The guide decided to check one more spot before lunch.

As we were driving up the hill, he spotted a large boar running up a slope. I hustled to try to make it up to the top of the ridge and cut him off. As I came over the top of the ridge, I spotted him at about 50 yards. He winded me and started running down the hill. I took a few shots at him. He was hit, but continued down the hill. He went down into a drainage and started up the other side. I found a nice rock, took a knee and fired a couple more shots. The first was over his back and the next shot hit the spot(325 yards). I walked down the hill to the pig and drug him into the shade. As I was getting ready to start the dirty work, I heard pigs squealing and running down the hill. I looked up and saw about a dozen pigs running down the hill towards me. I made sure the rifle was loaded and waited behind a small oak tree. They got to within 50 yards from me and stopped. I took the biggest sow in the bunch, then the work began.

Wife is happy and he is going the wall. Next trip will be up to lake Sonoma in late November.

Sorry for the long story.

Those are some very nice pigs. And you got a deer a couple of days earlier? You must be having a very good year. I have been out of the hunting business all year and it is driving my crazy. Doing some predator hunting in November/ December to keep me sane. Nice pictures by the way.

Nice pigs... sounds like you're having a much better year than I am for sure. I'm interested also what guide you went with. Thanks

M hunter,
The boar and sow weighed 104lbs and 90lbs respectively. I don't know what they weighed on the hoof.

rwlittle,
The pig hunt was up in Colusa county. The guide is a part time guide that only hunts the ranch about once a month. He usually only takes repeat customers and does not advertise much.
