I live in Phoenix and am looking for a hog hunt for my Daughter and I. I have heard there are ranches in the Riverside area. Does anyone know of a good place to hunt in that area or can reccomend a place?

There is one called Big Horn Canyon Ranch in Riverside. There are mixed reviews and its available on this site. Just do a seach so you'll find out and decide for yourself.

But if you'll drive hour and a half more, I'll strongly recommend Tejon. I've been there and it's top notch beautiful place that your daughter will definitely love. There is one upcoming hunt by JHO and you can also read it in this specific forum.

I always envy a father-daughter hunt. I myself have 3 daughters but all indoor type. One would have a terrible allergy for insect bite.

I have been to Big Horn Canyon and if you are just looking for something to shoot, its the place for you. It is literally like hunting at a petting zoo. If you want a real hunting experience I would take beastslayers advice and go to Tejon.

CAhntr,

I thought you'll have a choice of Russian boar in Big Horn Canyon where it can be challenging for an archery hunt?

Yes, you do have the option of going for russian's,and any time you go with archery it becomes more challenging, but I beleive their russian's are still pen raised. It really depends on what type of experience the hunter is looking for. If it is a guaranteed kill, then Big Horn is the place. For $450 (that was the price for russian's when I was there) I think the money could be better spent at a place like Tejon. I'm not bashing Big Horn, after all, I went there and I had a good time, but it's not for everyone.

If you do not want the Tejon trip, there is also Cedar Canyon ranch in the tehacaphi mountains. I have hunted a neighboring ranch and have seen many pigs on Cedar.

Good luck where ever you go..

Thanks for the info. Would like to make the JHO hunt but not able to at that time. I will look into that place though. We both want to hunt and the game is a bonus so the Tejon sound like the place. Also she shoots a 7-08mm would that be enough for the hogs? Shooting Barnes bullets out of it or Partitions.

7-08MM is puh-lenty for hogs, especially with Barnes or Partitions. You need penetration on hogs more than deer so heavy bullets for the caliber is a good choice(i.e. 180 grn. for the 30-06, 150 grn. for the .270 Win.,
150-160 grn. for the 7MM's, etc.). Hey, that is just my 2c as always. 'Nuff said.
