I am looking to go hog hunting but have never been. I heard from a old timer there are hogs in the IE around the Santa Ana river. But not sure wanted to see if anyone else knew about this and if so where there is public access. From what I can tell there is nothng except out by Redlands. Any help would be nice.

Search the forums under 'hog hunt santa ana river' and you should find an encyclopedia worth of written words. All of which, when summed up, do not amount to any public land success. Check it out.

I talked with DFG , RIVERSIDE SHERIFFS, & Norco pd, last year about hunting the river bottom last year and got a green light as long as it wasn't private property and my tags were valid . Oh yeah they also told me that I could only discharge a shotgun in the river bed no rifels. And no slug loads. By the way, there are definitely pigs down there. Ive seen them..............

You'll get a lot of different perspectives and information from people - bottom line, be very careful. Yes, there are wild pigs in the I.E, but most are on private property or in places that are illegal to hunt. If you find public land that holds pigs, you better check carefully to see if it's legal to hunt them - or say goodbye to your hunting privledges and your weapon, and be prepared to pay a healthy fine.

You must be trying to get someone arrested. You cannot discharge any weapon within city limits in riverside. and that's where all the pigs are.

So bow hunting only in the river bed? No rifle, no slugs... I can't imagine shoting a hog with buckshot and expecting it to die quick, unless you're at 10 yds.

Abecrow do you remember who you talk to, DFG or riverside sheriffs. I ask because i have heard something similar from a neighbor. I also found a corban arrow in one of the field at Hidden Valley Wildlife Area, last month. It had a machanical broadhead that was broken and it looked like had been out there for a while.

Probably from that guy that they chased out of there some years back for hunting in there ILLEGALLY!

Back in years past, there was a technicality regarding hunting in the Santa Ana River drainage. Technically, if you hunted the north side of the river you were on county land. County land could be hunted if you were a certain distance away from roads and dwellings. However, the south side of the river has always been within some form of city limits like Norco, Riverside, Colton, or Grand Terrace. Well, all that has changed now. Now, Eastvale and the newly formed Jurupa Valley (formerly the Riverside County properties of Mira Loma, Pedley, and Rubidoux) have become full fledged cities. Those days of County land bordering the river are history. The no projectile ordinances almost fully encompass the entire river drainage.

Ditto I hunt private prop. I am LE, know LE USFS and Wardens very well. Don't trust rumor. Hidden valley and all other riverside county preserve land is no hunting. Areas in san bernardino cty are all city and private....u will get cited. DFG wants the land hunted but riv county will not let it (per DFG capt.). U are better off going to tejon ranch and having fun instead of watching ur back and not seeing any pigs. Plus it not like it's thick with hogs here anyways.

Plenty of pigs. My friend did recieve a cite for broadtip arrows of legal size by DFG at the request of the City of Riverside and Corona. Deputy Sheriff's were there too with guns drawn. Heck of a hunt and he will talk about it for a long time. No pig taken and no tags left to stew either. FNG kept tags to file with cite. No fine was ever imposed but he still lost a lot of time and had many hoops to jump over multiple agencies that could not agree on problem vs law vs hunters. It is not worth it. Let Riv. Co. deal with the pigs on thier own.

It's only a matter of time till they allow hunting...or they will have to shell out the $$$$ for exterminator companies like the did about 10yrs ago. But $$ was better back then. A DFG capt. Told me Riv Cty requested them to kill the pigs but they declined and told them "that's what hunting is for." I guess they had probs with visitors and biologists getting chased out of there. I know I'll be foaming at the mouth to get into some of those off limits areas...

And we can count out EVER being able to h
unt the CA park area! :violin:

Just found out from a Game Warden and a biologist that there is no hunting of pigs in the Sanata Ana River currently. If your in the river on private land, you better be covered under a depredation permit. Stay tuned, as San Diego County and their ruling may pave the way for things,
