Fellows,
I am heading up to Hogs wild with a buddy in late March. Has anybody has been up there recently to bow hunt? I also saw a few post that stated you could elect to hunt the non fenced area with a bow. Any recommendations or experiences would be welcome!'
Thanks.

I haven't been myself, but I was shooting with a few guys a week ago who go there regularly. They say it's a pretty high-sucess hunt.

Not too helpful, but that's all I've got.

If they have been more than once I am hopeful! I have heard some good things. But as we all know, good things come with a fair amount of work!
Thanks!

I went there the first time in December and I cant wait to go back late april. Already got the date set. Its not as easy as people make it out to seem. They can get out of the fenced in area and there are areas that you can hunt that are not fenced. The fenced area is very big and I dont remember how many acres. There are some huge hogs and a lot of them had good tusks. Just be patient and make sure you place a good shot. And dont take a shower in the cabins. Damn water will make you pass out from the bad sulfur smell.

Thanks for theheads up, looks like I will bring a sunshower! Raully, did you stalk them or wait and ambush. I have been told to sit on the saddle and wait by a buddy who went a year or so ago. I like to move and stalk if it is productive.
Thanks.

In my own humble opinion, lose the fence and go on a real hunt. It's been debated plenty, but there are several great properties/guides with good success up and down the state. After your hunt, deep down you'll always know your hunt was "enhanced". Just my

Mike,
I have been thinking about that. and yes it has been discussed quite a bit. I think I will hunt the Fence the first day and if it wears on me I will hunt the other area the following day. From what i have heard though the area in the fence is steep and deep!
Thanks!

Syder2,

I went there with my brother last October and out of 6 archery hunters none of us bagged a pig or fired a shot. Its 650 acres..steep and thick with cover. Good luck you will need it. Pigs are very smart being hunted day in and day out. There are sooooo many pig trails it hard to figure out which ones are being used.

I will probably not go back and have scheduled a bow hunt this May with a guide out of Willows.

Put a little stick or thread or something in each pig trail in the evening next to a road or trail. Go in during the dark and check each trail to see which stick was knocked over by the pigs, that should tell you which trail to set up on before it gets light. They should come back up the same trail at daybreak if they are undisturbed.

I got a big boar and a sow out of a group of about 15 pigs using that technique. It was our first time hunting that particular ranch. We ended up with 23 pigs out of 17 hunters, mine was the biggest (pure luck).

Not a bad idea!! From what I am gathering ambush style hunting in an active area is going to be a decent way to start out. I am getting pumped, and realizing I better hit the range!
Thanks for the input!!

Thanks Mike. I will be sure to report back with some info and pictures. Does anyone know how much info they give you before they set you loose? "Semi guided" is pretty vague.
Thanks

spyder, my buddy and I are going the last weekend in march, we've been before and don't let anybody diminish the quality of this hunt . if you hunt as hard as we do its a ballbuster with plenty of steep and deep, it's over 600 acres about a square mile I guess. you'll realize just how big it is when you start dragging your pig back to the "fence". remember that your hunt starts about noon on friday and ends by noon sun so get there early friday if you can. theres usually someone to point you in the right direction but you really have to figure it out for yourself. e-mail me if you want more info. one other thing they fire the barbie up each nite but thats it for cooking facilities so we bring a propane stove /cookware and drinking water, Bill....usahunter@aol.com

My checklist now includes:
Non Sulfur tasting H20,and a Camping stove thanks to you guys. I opted for not staying in the cabin and hitting the dirt outside. I would hate to wake anyone with the sound of my beers opening! I am glad to hear that you are going back dirtpoor, that gives me a sense that I am not wasting my $$. I sent you and wtpops an e-mail.
Thanks

I have hunted there only once and got a nice 275-300# boar. It is a tough hunt. I hunted the fenced area and it is very steep......veeerrrry steep. If you hunt there wait it out in the saddle. When I go again, I will hunt the non-fenced area. My buddy hunted there and said they come in just at dusk, so make your shot count.

Good Luck, wish I was going with ya

Be sure to post up pictures when you get back. It seems that lots of people go there but I never see any pictures.
