ok boys here are some more shots of the ranch...Its called the french ranch up in hollister ca. It is about 100,000 acres and backs up to the san luis resivoir. As you go over pacheco pass down by casa de fruita its the land behind it.. They are a first class ranch that can sleep up to 8 hunters no problem, and each room has its own bathroom with shower. The bull elk on the wall was shot in 2008 on the ranch.

That's a monster boar congrats. My buddy hunts a ranch that backs up to the French ranch and tells me how good the hunting is. I guess so huh?

story

well guys we showed up on friday am in morgan hill. We all met at the coyote valley sporting clays and shot skeet and trap for awhile. Then headed to dunneville for some of their famous food...Its a hole in the wall, if you blink u miss it...Then off to the french ranch...Its way in the hell back up in the hills...Maybe 10 miles...We got there met all the guides, Matt, Todd, and Boomer who used to be the mayor of hollister....The guides are great, and really make it worth the trip up there...The cost is for non trophy boar is $950 for the weekend. trophy is $600 more I believe.(anything over 3.5 inches). The serve you 3 amazing meals, and the cabin is granite and marble everything..really nice...
We headed out about 6pm on friday and saw more hogs there on the first night then we did the whole last trip. Population is either exploded, or the weather this time being cooler (70deg) had them out earlier..

My nephew and I headed out with matt, and saw pigs everywhere but nothing big enough to shoot. We went to another spot and immediatly saw a nice boar then another. They made the stalk on a nice red boar, but the damn kid missed....a sign for things to come later...

We headed back and the other guys had 3 pigs down already...2 nice boars 1 trophy. The next morning we headed back out 3 guides 3 hunters...My dad and I went with matt again and spotted a nice colored boar...we got within 250 yrds and he told me to takd the shot. I looked at him and said ur crazy...im not making it that easy for you. I told him lets get closer...he looked at me like i was crazy...a hunter who liked to hike.... we stalked that boar with my dad at the truck watching..we got within 30 yrds but couldnt shoot, he had a field full of cows behind him.
We sat for a min and the wind swirled and looked again and he was gone.
We met my dad back at the truck and he told us he saw the boar winded us about 30yrds and took off...As we were regrouping I looked up at a ridge and saw another nice boar. Looked like it was all black but as we got closer Matt told me that it looked like a dalmation...I looked and it was exactly what i was looking for..colored with some huge as ivory...
We got within 175yrds but could see he was getting nervous with the rising sun.. I set up my 7mm wsm abolt on the tripod, i couldnt get my heart to stop beating like crazy...i sat and took some nice deep breaths...finally i was steady and i let the 150gr Etip fly. 1 shot he lifted up a lil, and dropped like a stone...Big Boar Down....Head shot...just behind the ear...went in and lodged in the shoulder...I have the bullet..i will post later today with more pics of the ranch...and more money shots of the pigs....
Saturday evening we took my nephew who missed again in the am out to basically the same area he had missed before and a giant lone boar got caught on a bare patch of poison oak....He jumped out set up and let the 270 barnes xxx shok fly...HIT...boar starts tumbling down the hill into the poison oak trying to stand the whole time...Matt takes off with his catahoula KING and we hear the going at it in the oaks...He yells let the other dog go..a small cat named Ruger, a small female who was going ballistic trying to get after them...I let her go and she took off like a bat out of hell....a few mins later Matt yells at me to get in there with a knife, that he has the pig down but cant kill it...I grab a knife and take off into the poison oak.
I get there and he has the pigs legs pinned while the dogs keep the pig occupied...he tells me to bury the knife into the heart...As i do the big ass boar goes for my arm...If you havent done that before....boy thats some crazy ass stuff right there...my hole was puckered up smaller then a pin hole...i keep pushing knife into lung and heart and that big ol dude lasted for 20 mins..finally took his last breath...Matt has the brilliant idea of dragging it through the poison oak cause if i didnt have it already he was going to make sure i got it...We got it back to the landcruiser and headed back to camp.
We all paid our dues and said our goodbyes and headed home...Another amazing weekend up at the french ranch....I dont know what they feed those suckers, but damn are the teeth up there big.....

oh yah...the copper sucks, passes right through, the Etips are amazing...every pig i have shot this year has been with an Etip...one shot deal....and all the copper shots from friends...have been lost pigs or wounded ,or 2-3 shots kills...FYI...
