See my post above, but if anyone feeeeels really bad about the waste of meat, given all the circumstances already explored, then one could make a shrine to the poor expired piggies like that old guy did to the mountain lion in Palo Alto !

TEXAS might just be the last refuge for testicular freedom[/b]

And god help us, I hope it always stays that way. Coondog, shadow, muddy z and myself were talking about the very same thing this weekend. As a matter of fact I believe it was this very thread that started the conversation. Texas has always been very open minded towards the hunter. I don't see that changing anytime in the near future either. We were all of the agreement that we are very lucky to live where we live and be hunters.

I just don't think the critisism is fair considering that it's all legal and above board. You may not like it, but that's just the way it is here. I've talked to guys on this site that think it's unethical to hunt in a stand over a feeder. It may be in some minds, but it's perfectly legal and common practice in Texas. So as far as it go's here, nothing is wrong or unethical about it.

If you don't like you states hunting laws you could always wait till we secede from the union and apply for citizenship. I hear that all applicants that can prove they have been hunting for five or more consecutive will be given priority. So be sure and save all those old hunting licenses

Bwana Turtle,

My concerns have nothing to do with political correctness. It's about public relations.

The simple fact is, sport hunting is on the ropes and facing more challenges than ever before. It doesn't make any good sense to simply hand the antis more ammo for their self-righteous crusade. That's why I, personally, have an issue about seeing stuff like this pushed out onto the web.

I have no problem with the depredation hunts, nor do I even take issue with the guys clowning over the pile of dead pigs. Heck, I've probably done something similar. Take a picture, put it on the wall of the hunting club, or show it to your buddies... but have a little thought for the impacts of stuff like this before turning it loose to the world.

This photo might not have any impact at all on Texas (or it might). In fact, this single photo might not have any impact at all, anywhere. But you can believe someone, somewhere, collects this crap and it will be used against us. Remember, just because this picture was taken in Texas doesn't mean it can't be used against hunters in other states... particularly CA.

It was public relations that defeated mountain lion hunting in CA, in part by using hunting video footage of lions being shot from trees. It was also PR that ended doe hunts in CA, using images of the "slaughter" that took place as ammo for the fight. Anti-hunting spin doctors are responsible for the success of almost every hunting ban, lawsuit, or regulation change across the country... and almost always do so by manipulating non-hunters' opinions through the use of imagery and anecdote that most hunters would never blink at.

Maybe I am just a testicularly challenged, candy-ass, but I believe that this country has become a very dangerous place for sport hunting, and we need to start taking our image a lot more seriously to ensure that Texas isn't the only state left where pictures like this can be taken. And Texas isn't without challenges of its own... just ask the hog-doggers down there about the issues they're facing from the antis.

As hunters, we can clean up our act or it's going to get cleaned up for us.

No, as usual, you were being the voice of reason and your points are well taken. I was blowing off steam. I wasn't singling you out or throwing down a gauntlet. All the across the board changes that are taking place in this country are making me sick. This was just the straw that triggered my ire.

This might be a better emoticon since there is no target for the pea soup.
