I haven't hunted with them, but I see the truck and have talked to the guys when hunting at Yolo. They seem to be real nice and seem like they will try hard to put you on pigs or exotics since they have everything there. Their ranch is fenced and if I remember right it is around 1000 acres. Good luck on the hunt.

I just talked to them at ISE Sacramento yesterday. Seems like good guys. We were talking archery hunting. They hunt from platform stands; basically nice tree forts that there is no way to fall out of unless you're doing "cartwheels" according to the guy I talked to.

I hunted at Hoss Hogs last year with my buddy. We had a great time and I'm going back March 6th and taking my wife along. Tony and Mike are super friendly and knowledgeable guys. I highly recommend them.
There are lots of pigs and some monsters in there too. I took a nice boar and made a bad shot on an even nicer boar the day before. Let me know if you have any other questions!

thanks for the replies. I think we are going to give them a try. Mikey88 how big was the one in the picture? I want to get a big pig but on the other hand I want to get one that taste good and everyone I talk to says the bigger ones taste bad. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Chris,

That boar went +- 225 lbs I believe. I wanted some teeth and he had some. He was an old scrappy boar and still tasted good but there was a small difference in taste compared to my sow. Feel free to message me if you have any more questions. If you give them a call you can tell them Mike Hewson said hi. Either way they'll bust their ass for you and I'm sure you'll have a blast. Plenty of pigs around there just come prepared to make a kill shot.

Cool Place. I have hunted there 2 times and got a medium sized sow on my first hunt. During that hunt on my first night I saw the biggest freaking pig in my life.. it looked like a Volkswagon bus with four legs.. huge sow.. Speaking of sows, they do not want you to shoot wet or preggo sows ($500 fine if you do..so be sure of your shot). I shoot traditional archery, so I need to get a wee bit closer than all you wheelie & pulley guys LOL.

On my second trip, I saw mostly smaller pigs and passed on those (mistake, should have shot one to fill the freezer). My buddy went out there last year and hit and lost a toad of a boar.

Seriously though, it is a fun place. My buddy and I are thinking of heading back soon. Hey Mikey, are you and your wife the only two heading up that weekend? Was that the most recent date available?

rwlittle,

I saw Mike and Tony at the ISE show in Sac. and they booked my wife and I in a spot with two other hunters. I'm not sure if that was the earliest opening but I think they just wanted to put us with a small group. I can't wait to go.

ok we are set to hunt the weekend of march 27th. I just have a couple other questions. How hi are the stands that we will be hunting out of and in your opinion what is a good broadhead to use? I shoot muzzy 100 grain for deer but we were wondering if we needed to get something different.

Thanks

NCal,
My two buddies hunted Hoss Hogs last year and killed two pigs and two rams. In fact, I think they were up there the same weekend as Mikey88. Duknutz is his name here on the forum and he uses the 100gr Muzzy. Seemed like they worked fine.

I'd say the stands are about 15 feet high but some stands are on the side of a hill so there is added slope! I used a Thunderhead and my boar went down quick. I'd say any good fixed blade broadhead would work great! :pig-laughing:

HeavyHorns....your buddies are good guys and we had a great time. We all had an action packed weekend!:archer green:

For those of you who have hunted at Hoss Hogs before. Have you guys had turkeys walk past your stands at all? If so, were they within shooting distance?
Thanks

this may be an odd question to some but I am wondering how the ranch sustains its hog population if its fences are deer high and hog tight? Are they able to buy Hogs and stock them?

Sorry to be negative, but is this really hunting?? A fenced ranch? wow. sounds just like a slaughter house when you find them.

this will be my only post. To each their own.
