Ok, so we post our photos in the pinned thread up top. Great idea. Do we also critique photos there and talk or do we do that on another thread? Just want to get it all straight.

I've got to get out and find some bugs!

One thread a week. Wvhunter already had posted a thread but we'll revert to the pinned thread that Eric Mayer started from now on.

wvhunter, would you be so kind as to repost your spider to that pinned thread?

Would be good to post exposure, camera, ISO, etc along with your pic, or not.

I imagine that we can critique in the same thread. When we start getting more people posting shots we can devise something then.

I will also post a request for camera, etc info.

Thanks for the ideas!

Sounds like a winner to me! Posting the exif data (camera, F-stop, shutter speed etc) is a great idea. It helps everyone become better photographers from looking at all the settings that produced the photo.

I can't find any dang insects in my yard!!lol

Ok, WildBird, you've impressed and confused me all at the same time!lol That photo is awesome and I'm almost speechless. To be honest though, it doesn't even look like a real photo! It looks like something computer generated. While I assume it's not, I'm still confused on what I'm looking at? I'm just trying to figure this out.lol What are the little green pointy things in the middle? What are the little white stars in the center/bottom of the frame?

Don't get me wrong, this photo is awesome! It would make a great background for my desktop but it is so perfect it doesn't look real.

Where can I go in San Diego to take some pics like that. Very Cool!

Looks like the flower is filled with water and a blossom is about to come out. I would say those white star things are reflections from the sun or flash?

Thanks for looking and your comments. This image is real, not computer generated. The size of the subject is very small, maybe 3 inches across. It shows a plant growing in a larger plant with water making it happen. The camera's Super Macro mode allows focus within 1.6 inches, and I was within that range thereabouts. I maxed out the DOF with F-8 in manual mode, hand held. The polarizer filter really helped here, with patterns on the water and the "star" reflections being brought out. I took half a dozen exposures and this was the best and "golden" one. Keep in mind that the closer the lens to the subject the sharper will be the image with a slower shutter speed, and this will work to your advantage. That worked for me on this one. This is in San Diego, in the Arboretrum (behind the lily pond). Great for hunting pics in the middle of the day because the light is diffused and the inside is sheltered from the wind. I'll be going back with the tripod and this time "No Prisoners". WB
