Thanks Speck, middlebrook,Jesse and Scott (GWH) It was fantastic. I'm usually a guy that doesn't join groups especially when going hunting, but I will do this again and again and again. The only downer was that my partner Keith had to back out because his Dad passed away on Weds. To all that I met and shot the s... with, it was great to meet you. To those that I didn't meet, I wish that I had and I will next time. My biggest surprise. Getting to camp and seeing most of the 47 people present and thinking....Oh no, how am I going to find a place to hunt with-out company?! Then hunting and only crossing trail with one other person during the whole weekend. Saw absalutley no one on Saturday. I was one of the lucky ones that scored, but would have considered the trip successful even if I hadn't. A special toast to my camp mates Karstic, Deadducks & Junior. See you this summer.....hronk

Yeah that was Hronk speed skinning..

We both hung our hogs about the same time, and by the time I was done he had already skinned his pig, took a nap, ate a sandwich , read a book, and changed the oil in his truck.

Wow! Those are great stories!!!
<
I'm really stoked that we did so well as a group. The going success rate at the POR's has been about 15%, (lately.) Seems that we are at about 35%. That's awesome. I'm just guessing, but I think that the difference is that the majority of JHOers got out of the truck and used their boots.
<
I'm thinking that a majority of the POR hunters do a lot of driving. I speculate that half the vehicles at a POR are Jeeps. And Jeep owners love to drive at Tejon. I don't blame them, it's fun. I just think that we have some hardcore hunters in the group and it made a difference. Makes me proud.

I got off easy. I was driving to one of my favorite spots Saturday morning (couple miles west of Squirrel Canyon,) and spotted three hogs about a 1/2 mile from the road. Buck Eye and I put the sneak on them, snuck down the creek, climbed a secondary ridge and came out 220 yds accross from the hogs at almost eye level. It was perfect.
<
I had first shot and squeezed the trigger. The hog buckled, but took off on a death run. I emptied my gun and the hog finally expired and started rolling. It rolled about 60 yards down to within about 30 yds from the creek bed. That's when I noticed a little two-track in the bottom.
<
Oh my lucky stars! I got to the sow and gave it a knudge and it rolled all the way down to within ten feet of the two-track. Bucky drove my truck right up to the hog. Easiest recovery in three years. I think I deserved it that day. I had hit her three times, two perfect lung shots, and one in the belly (dang it.) I was stoked.
<

Took her to the butcher today. Ordered up a smoked ham, smoked chops, and four different flavors of sausage. I can't wait to sink my teeth into a smoked pork chop. I eat 'em cold on the way to work in the morning. Gotta keep dental floss at my desk.

Just wanted to mention that I really enjoyed hunting with Bucky and TwoFlatTim, (newly re-nicknamed.)
<
Good folk. Also, wanted to mention that my buddy Fairchase, from Idaho, had to bail out at the last minute.
<
He had an emergency at work, and had to stay. It was a tough decision for him. Sounds to me like he made a very unselfish choice. I called him on my way home from Tejon to give him the report.
<
He let me ramble on for twenty minutes about the Ham Slam,
<
then just happened to mention what he did over the weekend. He actually turned the weekend around by making the salmon opener in Idaho at 5am Saturday morning. He put two big 'ole salmon in the truck.
<
From what I understand, that is one hell of a day on the river. The entire time that I was yackin',
<
he was standing over the grill, tending to a big fat side o' salmon. Good things happen to good people. Fairchase is one of those great people. Someday he might post a story and pic of the muley he took last year. It's another great karmha story. C'mon dude, post up.
<

Well, I had a blast. Thanks for the great times!

Hey, anybody seen Barry? That guy's cool!

I thought I would need acouple of brown box's to pick up all my meat with from the processor but looking at the picture of my pig in that picture maybe I will only need one brown bag.

Superduty,

Gotta love the pink snow saucer as a drag sled!
<
I think I have a couple of them laying around the house somewhere. Now I know why I haven't thrown them away.

Congrats on the hogs everyone.
