Great pix, Mr and Mrs Superduty! And Dave, it was great to meet you in person!

Kentuck, those sleds are a great idea for dragging hogs. Unfortunately, mine was in the truck at the top of the hill when I shot my pig, so I didn't even get to use it. Grtwythunter used it for part of his drag though... don't think we'll be riding snow banks with it anymore.

Anyway, back to work...

I forgot to thank FRitz and Dave for the great food and Dave for letting me crash in his tent camper. Also forgot to say thanks here to Barbara for putting up with us. I'll get some trinkets in the mail to Barbara to thank her since I forgot in all the hub bub there.

Paul,
I feel so bad that you missed this trip. I learned most of what I know about pig hunting from you. You showed me all of the hot spots and schooled me on their behavior. Thanks!

Paul is the kind of guy that always lets the other guy shoot first and always helps out rookies. He is a true sportsman!

Like I said Jesse.........you don't snore near as bad as Orso. It was definitely a good trade for getting to follow you around the ranch and learn the lay of the land. I'm looking forward to Rock Creek in June.

Guys,
I'm so tired my eyes are crossed....but I gotta' get this question out there and maybe tomorrow I'll Post "My" response to the Slam and the GREAT time I had with all of you fellas....and of course you too, Julia! :) My question is...on Sat. night one you guys asked me about the Hunter Safety Classes I teach...I don't remember which one of you it was, but if you email me, I'll be glad to give you any help I can in getting that friend of yours certified, or his Son, or whoever it was that you mentioned to me! I hope this jogs your memory and I appologize for not remembering just exactly which one of you I was talking to about this!

Here's our story:

Friday after check in, Infamous Ed and I begin scouting. After failing to grasp the Tejon map, we return to camp without a clue.

Thank goodness PitDog and FForF were making dinner. After chatting with them for a few minutes they took us under their wing and led us to a great spot. Of course Ed and I totally miss-understand where we're supposed to go and end up right next to these guys instead of across from them! You see, that's why A.D.D. is such a poor quality in a hunter!

Saturday morning we're up at 4am to hunt Tunas. It was approx 2 mile hike one way in on one hell of a steep slope. 7:30am Big Ed misses a shot at about 300 yards... on a group of 5 adults and many little footballs. They were on the move and he couldn't have possibly closed the gap. As we walked back, we realized the pigs had come in right behind us. And literally dropped some nice steaming fresh scatt ON MY BOOT TRACKS!

Saturday evening we hunted the far west. By squirrel canyon. I was moving through this dense manzanita that was so thick you couldn't see more than 10 or 15 feet. There are hog beds dug right into the freaking hillside and there's scat everywhere! I'm moving along this game trail that actually has hog prints instead of cattle prints (very exciting!). It runs directly under this bush/tree... when I am about a foot away from the plant, the entire thing starts to shake and I hear one VERY loud grunt. Then there's a lot of dust. I immediately run around the edge of the bush with my .44 cocked and locked - to no avail. Whatever "Monster" was lurking there was already gone.

10 minutes later I'm sitting at the top of the same ridge glassing the canyon below for movement. I suddenly hear a squeal 15 yards behind me. I jump to my feet and quick draw my .44 as I spin in the air. The little hog does the same! He jumps in the air and spins around with his little hoggy legs already running in mid-air. His feet hit the ground and in a puff of dust he's off at a full run! I draw a bead and take 1 shot at the little bugger. He was about the size of my parents cocker spaniel, but a hell of a lot faster. Where my bullet hit the ground I don't know. But it didn't pass through his grey flesh. He disappears in the brush in almost the same amount of time it took to see him, and re-appears in a 40 foot clearing about 320 yards away at a slow jog. I know I can't shoot that far so I pass on the shot.

At camp we drown our sore legs in whiskey, beer, and scotch. Ahhhh.... what an evening. I tried to help FForF skin his hog, but really just got in his way. I did learn what to do when I get my own pig.

Sunday morning revealed sign but no hogs. We left for home at 11:30am because we had to work early the next morning.

Overall it was awesome! 10,000 times better than deer camp. I can't even begin to say what a great group of guys we've got here. And I can't wait till next year!

BTW - since we pretty much police ourselves, and only a skeleton crew is at Tejon during the JHO Slam (unlike a regular Ham Slam) maybe they'd keep our price the same or give us a discount next year (like $350 instead of $400). To some it may not matter, but a few of us are cheap bass-turds.

Thanks again to Speck and Jesse!

Sincerely - "The other Jesse".

No problem Jesse. Barbara really liked my JHO staff shirt, the heavy material one with long sleeves and camo on the elbows and cuffs.

Hey guys,

I didn't get many pictures this weekend. Seems like the camera was always stuck in the back of the truck or my hands were full with other things.

I'm putting together an article for the Jesse's Hunting and Outdoors Journal, and need more pix from Tejon and the hunt. I'd like to borrow some of the images that you guys have put up here (properly attributed, of course). Would any of you be willing to let me use your images? Just shoot me an email letting me know.

Thanks.

Reddog, The wife sent you all the pictures I took last night. Hope you got them. There in a AOL album and from there you can save them or even order prints online. Good luck and no problem lending you guys the radio. Any JHO'er is more than welcome to what I bring unless it's Mrs. Superduty.

Why is the pig tied up? Is that how all the hunts at tejon are? Well it is a high fenced area. Guess it all makes sense now.......

Just kidding of course.

I finally finished my personal story about the JHO hunt. You can see it at my hunting site.

I'll have an article on the hunt in the JHO Journal as soon as I get final numbers and some other data from Barbara.

Writing it all up reminds me of just how much fun this weekend really was!

Might be cool to get all the Ham Slam pix loaded up on a Ham Slam section in the gallery. I haven't really looked at the gallery that much though... is it possible to set it up that way?
