Was in the other sections look at the what is it pic and it was so dark I couldnt tell it was a bear till I brightened the pic, looking at the same pic at work it was bright enough to tell with out doing anything, how do I tell which monitor is showing the true(ist) brightness?

I know that there are monitor calibration tools. Adobe photoshop comes with one, and I think there are some freebies out there too.

I know that on my laptop (LCD), photos are much brighter than my desktop (CRT) at work.

A poor-man's way to adjust your monitor correctly is to print a photo (4x6) and then view the photo on your monitor. hold the photo up next to your monitor and you can then adjust your monitors settings (brightness, contrast, etc) according to the printed photo.

Just don't confuse monitor cailbration with color calibration.

Thanks, the pics I print at home see more realistic to then the other. They are both LCD, my laptop is brighter thats why I like using that just to view game cam pics.

lan-lord is right on with the monitor calibration. Using the lcd screens are harder to work with because the angle of the screen can change what you see as the correct color.

I just got a dell 24" LCD, and its going to take a bit to calibrate, but its sure nice working on!

One thing that I heard about monitor calibration kits is that ambient light does affect the calibration. It will calibrate differently under different lighting conditions.
