TRA, How much do you use the box calls . I feel like I get great real turkey sound from mine but I’m inconsistent making lighter calls and it’s hard to use when they are in close. Do you guys use blinds at all. ?
I will build a blind of sorts when setting up in the morning, never used a pop up for turkey though

I enjoy hearing everyone's perspective on what types of calls they prefer. Pretty much in agreement with you all, I use a custom made box to locate and to bring them in from a distance, then typically switch to a glass pot call for closer purrs, clucks and soft yelps. I'm also not super good with the mouth call but rely on it for close soft calls during archery season when I need both hands to manage the bow. This season started late for me due to other commitments, keep in mind generally nothing comes between me and turkey season but this year it was unavoidable health issues that kept me home. I was able to get out later in the season and do some archery hunting, a lot of close calls on quite a few birds but no luck here in California. However I did just get back from Colorado where I was able to bag a Merriam's with my shotgun, unfortunately it was a tough bird and after I initially dropped him he jumped up and I had to put a second shot in him as he tried to run off which destroyed histail. Successful hunt but ugly results. I also got in a little bass fishing, overall a great ending after a slow start.

Nice Bird. I had to shoot mine twice as well. He was running from my wife’s missed shot . I dumped him . His head came up and I didn’t hesitate. Too hard to get one to mess around . We are dreaming of trying merriams in both Colorado and Arizona

They are beautiful birds! I've been fortunate enough to take a few in Colorado, all at higher elevations which makes for a really cool backdrop and environment to hunt in. You and your wife should definitely go for it, I was lucky enough to finally get my U.S. turkey slam two years ago with a Osceola bearded hen in Florida and my first and only Eastern in Tennessee. Some day I would like to go to Mexico and get the Oscillated turkey.

So cool. We already get points in colorado and Arizona for big game We will be starting to get some points for turkey as well . We were out with our bows Saturday. The birds were very quiet . But we sat and called quietly. Pulled one Jake and one hen out of the new green up . The Jake didnt give us a shot but of course the hen was walking all around us pecking. Haha. Good times
