The buddy of mine that I was suppose to go to Lake Sonoma with next week calls me up and says he can't go! It turns out he booked a hunt on the property that borders the lake, we use to hunt here a lot and they are killing the hogs big time right now. Then he goes on to tell me that he's treating me to the hunt
<
Then he even goes one step further and says that my son Justin can also go, the guy who runs the hunts will not charge Justin to hunt, but if he kills a hog, then he will need to pay the $350. Well, guess what, my buddy says if Justin kills a hog, to consider it his early birthday present, he's got it covered. Now is that a great friend or what!! We will be leaving on Tuesday and coming back on Thursday, hopefully I will have great pics for you guys in a couple of weeks.

Say, Mel. Did you ever see that movie that was out a year or two ago? What was it called? "Pay It Forward" ???

Except in this case, the story line can be:
This is Mel, and Mel gets three hogs. Then Mel tells three of his friends, and they get three hogs...
<

Have a safe hunt.

Hey there Mel,

Is this the same friend that won the guided hunt (in Colorado for Elk I think) that said if he can't go, you can go in his place? Regardless, sounds like a great guy!

Good luck on your hunt!

Yeah, this should be a great trip. Justin has went once before, but we only say one hog and it was way out there. So hopefully he'll nail his first big game animal next week. That trip we killed 4 hogs out of 8 people. I have personally taken 7 hogs from this ranch.

Pigig, yep, anyone can hunt this place. You actually get 2 1/2 days of hunting for the $350, that is if you show up about mid day the day before the hunt is actually suppose to start. Ken will show you where he thinks you should hunt, explain the terrain and if you get something, he'll try and get it out with the quad. The cleaning and skinning is up to you. Ken doesn't advertise at all, most of his clients are repeat customers. If you want to get a hold of him, here's his number 530-474-4959, his name is Ken Whitaker. Tell him I told you about it, he'll probably keep you on the phone for a long time, he loves to talk.

Backcountry, yeah, this is the same guy. We have been friends for about 25 years. For him to spend $700 on a hunt for me and Justin, is like one of us normal guys spending about $100. He has major $$$$$$$.

We may be going back up again in April, Jim (my buddy) has already got it set up. And as far as I know, he still plans on going. I don't think next weeks hunt is taking the place of April's hunt, I think he wants to get a few of his buddies together again and chase some hogs.

Dan, this will be a rifle hunt.

And here's one that Jim took a couple of years ago.

Hey Kentuck, does that country look familure. The hills in the background is were we motored up dry creek at Lake Sonoma, remember where it got a little shallow?

Mel,

I recognize those hills. Maybe with the pressure the bowhunters are putting on Sonoma that will have the hogs pushed up on the ranch even more so. It'll be nice to sling lead instead of aluminum for a change.

Hay Mel you forgot to tell them about your other very very good friend who is lending you his quad for this trip. What good friends you have, if only we all had friends like that.
<

Good luck on the hunt and have fun. Tell Justin I said hi.
