Just saw some pictures of a huge non-typical bull taken here in the north state. His horns look like a caribou. The lowest of the three green scores taken was 447, the biggest was was 460. They are trying to get a B&C panel set up to measure him. I will try to get some pictures to post here.

Beautiful animal!!

AAAHHHH! I hate to admit this, but the elk was harvested in Modoc county - he's pretty typical for around here. Looking at the location of the picture, I can come within about 5 miles of where he was shot. I'm afraid that DF&G is going to screw up this herd by allowing too many hunters and not doing anything about the poachers (apparently poachers aren't prosecuted up here). The elk here are massive and the herd is growing - but knowing how DF&G doesn't manage anything that isn't endangered, we're going to lose the elk like we're losing the deer and antelope.

Yeah, that's a magnificient bull alright~! I'm wondering if there was a herd planted in addition to what's migrated in from OR. Seems like Southern OR isn't really known for big bulls...just big bucks although I do recall hearing about some monster bulls on the ranch just north of Keiger Ridge/Mt. in the Steens...that's still a ways away.

Last year a fellow who works for the forestry service harvested a 390+ typical from the NE CA hunt--it was featured in Trophy Hunter magazine a couple issues back.

These are all from the southern Oregon herd - conditions are just right for them to become huge animals. Kind of like the animals in the Kaibab.
