They have bad eyesight but they can still see, especially at close (archery) range! Its the movement they can spot more than anything else. Camo is not that critical, and all guides I've seen go after pigs wear blue jeans but usually a camo shirt or jacket. Myself, I wear full camo (no mask). Not just to help prevent pigs from spotting me, but also any other critter that might spook and cause the pigs to spook too. I figure the more stealthy you are the better chances you have at seeing more wildlife... I've stalked deer (for fun) and had to hide from cattle during a stalk on pigs before, and was glad I was in full camo.
I usually wear camo because most of my hunting clothes is camo. It's comfortable and has more pockets than my bluejeans. Hides dirt more too. Why trash a good pair jeans with some of the muck you get into out there?
Camo is definitely overrated for hog hunting, but it doesn't hurt to wear neutral colors or to break up your outline. Personally, I keep intending to video a hog hunt wearing Hawaiian shirts, but it never works out just right.
Bottom line is, dress for comfort. For me, my hunting clothes (mostly versions of military BDUs) are the most comfortable things I own for squatting, kneeling, hiking, and sitting in rugged country... and it happens that they're all camo. My Levis tend to bind in a lot of positions, or I'd wear them. I don't own any Carhardts, but they have a great reputation for comfort. I've heard Wrangler jeans are more comfy, but I don't own any of those either.
The point is, most of my most comfortable hunting clothes are camo, so that's what I wear. It's not so much about hiding as it is about being comfortable all day long.
For me, I wear camo 'cause that's the stuff I keep treated with tick repellent. Hunting out here can be an eye opening experience if you get into the wrong place with untreated clothing. I don't know about you, but I don't look forward to picking ticks off my nuts.
