I hunted last year 5/30/2003 with a guide over in king city. And shot at a 200 pound boar the first day by 10 am the name of the ranch was called the spur ranch . the guides name is rick s.q. I had a really good hunt. its hunt and stalk no dogs. The morning before that I arrived at his ranch two pigs about 200 pounds each ran out in front of my truck I thought my hunt was over before I even got to his ranch. When i got to the ranch we hopped in his truck and went to were he had been seeing the hogs the only problem was that the guys over the hill were shooting at the hogs before the hogs could get to me. the ranch we were hunting is next to T-bone ranch. so we went to another ranch that is the spur ranch and we were driving when the 200 pound hog was walking right in the open right at us. the guide wispered let him get close and hit him in the head and at 50 yards I shot. The 3006 put the hog down. and I was so excited jumping up and down when I looked over at the hog it got up running in circles so I shot the hog again behind the shoulder that finished the hog off. I found out after the head shot was a grassed shot. If I would recommend any one it would be this guide rick s.q.
S.Q. Guide Service Rick Eskue is his name # 831-385-0154 He charges $400 Flat Rate there isnt a trophy fee or anything like that. I cleaned my own animal but I think he charges $50 to clean the animal.
This is a totally true Tejon Ranch story….I know, because it was me who was there.
Last February I and my hunting partner took a trip to Tejon Ranch for a weekend of boar hunting.
The guide gave us directions to the ranch and told us were to meet him.
When we reached the meeting spot at the ranch headquarters I phoned the guide but there was no answer so I left him a message and inform him that we have arrived and we are at the front gate.
About 15 minutes pass and our guide arrived to let us in the property. We began to hunt the rest of the afternoon and into the evening with not even a sighting of a pig.
We returned to the main camp to get some grub and tell a few big fish stories.
The next morning came too early and we were off to see what we could see. Our guide drove us to a spot and parked his truck after spotting good sigh. We walked a bit and heard several hogs toughing it out with each other in the thick brush, we never saw the group but did see a huge porker lurking in the distance about 450 yards from us. The shot could have been made but the recovery of that animal would have been an 8 hour hike in and out. So we all hopped in the truck to find easier pray. Just then our guide’s cell phone beeped to signal him that he had a message but his phone had “no service in this area” so he couldn’t see who was calling him.
He was going to drive a bit to see if his phone could pick-up a signal. We drove about ½ mile to were his phone would work, he proceeded to call to pick up the message when a group of 2 year old boars, about 6 black Russian, stopped just 10 yards in front of us. I got out of the truck and laid a 30-06 round in the lead boar’s neck . The boar fell and rolled right in front of the truck, not 5 feet in front of us. Who knows if I would of had BBQ pit ready he would have cooked himself.
The guide field dress the 150 lb. 100% black Russian boar. We loaded it on the truck and headed for camp.
I told our guide that it was lucky you got a message on your cell phone, other wise we wouldn’t have stopped and the pigs would have passed us by.
I ask who was the call from and I would like to thank them for the luck They brought me.
The guide call to listen to his message and to our amazement it was me on his answering service, from the afternoon before. It was my message telling the guide we have arrived at the front gate.
Kind of scary don’t you think.
Now who wants to hunt with me?
The only guided hunt I ever went on was with T-BONE, this guy was the worst, my hearing still hasn't returned in my right ear, should have sued the jerk
Nice pig bhfury, I take it you took it hunting with T-Bone.. I think every guide will have both good and bad reports.. Sooner or later.. I saw some other post about him that where not good on another forum also..
No, this hog was taken off of my ranch. In know way is it connected with T-Bone. I was just wondering if he was the same T-Bone in the Priest Valley/Parkfield area. If it is the sameone, he is not suppose to be guiding or hunting!!!!!
BHFURY, the hunt with t-bone was about 2 years ago, I think his name is Brian ?, big fat guy t-bones guide service, my experience was written up in hog news by jim matthews, it was an accurate blistering account, if it wasn't completely true without exaggeration he could have sued me, he didn't.
Thanks for the compliments.......Hogs are fun to hunt. I can't legally take money for allowing people to hunt our place. If I did, I would have to get a guide's license and I'm not about to do that......
