another story from java.
i was hunting with my buddy in our favorite spot, way up in the mountain in the east side of java. my buddy live in the area he owns a shrimps farm in the seaside of the area. he got his scout up in the mountain that keep telling him that there are abundance wild boar in the mountain at the moment.
after setting up a date with me, both of us went up to the mountain, it's about 3 hours from his shrimp farm.
after a 3 long hours in the bumpy road, we finally arrived in the location, it was a coffee plantation that has border with mountain corn field.
scouts was telling us that the pigs eat the corn as soon as the it was dark. few of the groups have more than 20 pigs in the group.
after arranging the plan, we finally split the hunting party in to 2 groups.
i went with 2 of the scouts along the ridge to wait in the end of the corn field.
after a while i was waiting in the spot, i sent one of my scout to check around the corner.after awhile, i heard my scout were calling me from the radio( all of us got a radio) that he saw pigs entering the corn field from his position. hurried to the spot, i also let my friend know that pigs were coming to the middle field. i saw pigs were entering the corn field, i was waiting till they were eating the middle corn, cause we can have more follow up shot. while i was waiting the pigs, i heard my other scout called me that more pig were entering the corn field that i was waited. i moved back to the end of the field. after that it was dark, my scout readied the spot light. listening to the sound, we finally located the pigs. at the first spot, i saw 4 of pigs, i picked the biggest one and send a round, i knew it was hit, but still go on, i send another round and i saw the pigs went down. then we searched using the spot light, i saw another group and send another round on the biggest one, i could heard the crashing and sliding down the ridge. after that we moved the spotlight to other spot, and i saw more pigs tried to go back to the bushes in the top of the ridge, i send a single round on the biggest one. i heard crashing....
after that i saw all the pigs already in the bushes. we went down to get the pigs. i cant find the first pigs that i shot twice. then i heard a 2 booms from my friend direction. he told me that he got one in the radio.
searching the location from the first shot, i couldn't find the pigs, but we found the 2nd n 3rd pigs. i tried to find the blood from the location of the first pigs, but couldn't find any bloods, but definitely saw the location the pigs crashed.
the 2nd pig was a boar, 175lbs
3rd pig was a sow, 140 lbs
my friends was 150lbs.
it was a successful hunt.
i still wonder how come i saw the first pig fell twice and i could not find it. does the fat in the pig cover wound so it didn't leave any blood trail?
i was shooting a 270 win int 130 grn silvertip factory ammo.
i hope i can share a bit of my hunting from java here in the forum
forgive my misspelled or bad english.

Indoboar,
Congratulations!!! Thank you for sharing your successful pig hunting adventure and for the beautiful picture. Those are good sized pigs. Do you cook and eat them? What is your favorite recipe for wild pig?
I am originally from the Philippines and our native wild pig is small.............averaging about 80 to 100 lbs. for a mature wild boar with a v-e-r-y long snout. The bigger ones are hybrids(mix) of the domestic pig that escaped and crossbred with the native wild pig. Our small native wild pig has NO armoured shield(gristle plate is what they call it here in America)in the shoulder so the skin is tender and edible. The favorite recipe for the tender skin is to burn off the hair with a torch, shave off the hair stubble and then slice the skin and cut it into small pieces and then marinate it in vinegar and spices and then eat it uncooked. I have not eaten any.....but my friends and my brother-in-law who have............they say that it is very delicious and tasty. A sort of delicacy............but of course, NOW knowing about pig parasites like trichynosis worms...........it is a very dangerous, risky way of eating any UNCOOKED pig flesh. The pig meat itself is cooked "adobo" style or "calderetta" style. Both of which are now very easy recipes to cook by just buying the ready made adobo sauce packet or the ready made calderetta sauce packet. Both recipes are mouth watering delicious over hot steamed white rice. Both the adobo and the calderetta recipes are safe recipes because the meat is cooked until "fall off the bone" tender.
I really enjoy reading your hunting adventures as I can relate to the tropical environment. Thanks again.
God Bless, always

indoboar- nice hogs!

as far as the fat covering up the wounds, im not sure i've had that happen before, but you did mention that you were using silvertip ammo, which im assuming is ballistic tipped?
from my experience with ballistic tipped ammo, they tend to explode and fragment rather than penetrate, and on a large boar with plenty of armor, this may not be what you want. you'll want a slower fragmenting round, or one that will offer deeper penetration before breaking apart. just my 2 cents, and maybe some of the other rifle hunters may want to comment?

Indoboar,
I am guessing here that the .270 130 grn. silvertips will fragment if a rib bone or a leg bone is hit. With fragmentation..............the chances of a complete penetration from one side and out the other side are slim on a 150+ lb. boar. Maybe you can borrow a smart tracking dog to track down the escaped/wounded boar next time you go hunting in that thick hillside. Pigs can run a few hundred yards and hide in thick brush even when mortally hit with high powered weapons. In those very thick tropical underbrush..........the bushes are so thick that even a Sumatran tiger can hide. I am sure that pig is dead.............but without a blood trail...............it is pure luck if you discover the pig laying dead in those thick tropical underbrush. Try hunting on a full moon and install a laser sight attached to the rifle barrel and you can see the pig silhouette up to 50 to yds. very, very clearly and then you can lay the red laser dot on the pig's skull/head/neck without using any spotlight and without alerting the pigs to your presence. That way it is a surprise to the pigs when you pull the trigger and with headshots..................that pig is not going anywhere. Thanks again for the wonderful hunting stories from tropical hunting paradise. 'Nuff said
God Bless, always

Indoboar – My first pig I shot 3 times at point-blank to 30 yards away with a 270 shooting 130 grn Remington Coreloks. The pig still ran 50 yards before it died.

Switch to 150 grn Nolser Partions if you can find them. They give a lot more punch and will hold up if they hit bone!

Nice hogs! What else do you guys have to hunt over there?

sorry for the long reply, i just took a long weekend vacation in Bali.
Bigisle87: i use winchester power point and silvertip( super-x) the old one, not the new balistic tip both of them are the 130grn. usually it penetrate nicely.
larrysogla: i would definitely wanna try to use the lazer sight.

the ticket runs about 1500-2000usd for round trips
