I finally got a chance to get a hunting license and pig tag for $70 bucks today.

My 12 month $240K project with a really big software corporation is coming to a close, and this will be my first chance to hunt anything in the past year.

I will head for Hollister and scout the BLM lands there with my copper 45ACP cartridges for my pistol and my copper 12 gauge slugs.

Pigs need water, so I will hunt the water sources.

My bino's are 10x50 Redfields.

Compass and map are my guides. No GPS.

Semper Fi do or die.

Yay though I walk ... .

Good luck! I'm heading down there in a few weeks. This rain should help.

The rain will only scatter the pigs because now they can get water anywhere

^^^That thought never occurred to me. No wonder I can never find them after a heavy rain. Thanks!

The rains will pool eventually and then it will be easy to spot tracks.

A lot of people can't tell between deer tracks and pig tracks though.

Gee, if the rains come maybe you should buy more than one tag!

I never needed rain to spot pig tracks. I find that the rain provides soft ground with roots, bulbs and bugs that they can now root up. But the rooting is easy to spot, rain or no rain.

Really, a lot of people cant tell the difference between deer and pig track, really; what people? Who?

I'm not embarrassed to say this -- me. I'm fairly new to hunting and it took me a few outings a little bit of research to figure out that deer tracks are pointy and pig tracks are rounded. Still, I'll sometimes spot a partial track and have a moment of doubt. I think for new hunters, or for people like me who have to learn on their own, stuff like that can sometimes be confusing.

If your gun likes them, try the Remington 3" 1 oz. Solid copper slugs. My Mossberg 935 puts them within an inch at 50 yards. This is a 58 caliber bullet. I dug one out of a rotted stump and put it back in the hole in this target. I have to resight my Mossy in the fall for slugs, since I use a turkey barrel on it in the Spring. A cantilevered barrel is on my Santa list.
