you arent allowed onto the the area without a pass unless you are a non-hunter there with a hunter who has payed his permit. You have to have a slip to be in the TAs and they only give them to permit holders. I think thats right

......and even if you have apermit, no scouting is allowed. You can only be in your assigned TA during legal hunting hours, so scouting and hunting become one. :)

Can you change your TA for Sun.? Or do you stick with the same one throughout the weekend?

Cjack, the way I interpreted the regs is that you MAY be able to exchange TAs @ the check in counter, but 1st come 1st served approach. I plan on being there this week and plan on asking that question;I will make due with what they hand me anyway. I've fought a lot of wild fire there in my career and have familiarity with the fort's land.Good luck man.

You can change TA's. I have bounced a few times, you will have to turn in your permit both yellow and pink, to get a TA change. remember harvest or not you have to turn in your permit at the end of the weekend. Scouting with guns..

Thanks mr sunset, Even though I plan on registering Fri. at 3:00pm I see in the reg's that you can register at 5:00am Sat. is that also the time you can enter and begin hunting?

The short answer is that you can enter your TA 2 hours before legal shooting time.

The longer answer is that you need to print this, read it, and understand it. Everything you need to know about hunting at FHL is addressed in this document, including the punishmentt for violating the rules.

You can change TA's at any time by going back to check-in and requesting a change. First come, first served, so if it is busy they might limit the number of hunters in any given TA.

Some TA's can be bundled. For example, you can get a permit for TA 1 and 2 combined. They do not volunteer this info, you have to ask. Popular TA's like 7 or 10 can not be bundled.

Well just hope they have some general weapon TAs open if that's what your plan is. I have an open weekend so was hoping if heading down there for my first time too but if there aren't any open TAs for me that will suck. Been having pig dreams again so I take it as a good omen.

Does this happen often? I am bringing the bow and rifle to be ready for any situation.

During the general season, at FHL, I bring my bow & rifle, and muzzle loader. You never know 100 % if they close or open an area. This way I have 3 different way's to hunt. And might get to hunt an area that some dont have the correct weapon for that area.

Yes, all the time. The major excercises go until the 6th according to their fb page. Of course this can change and is no garuntee of any TAs being open.

Good idea to bring multiple weapon types.
