I've got the itch to go hunting bad.. I went scouting this last Friday and saw 3 deer, posted my trail cam in a bedding area to see if I could get some good pictures..\

Thinking of going pig hunting but my experience is very limited. I was thinking about going to Cache Creek or Indian Valley.. Any suggestions?

Anyone else going out this weekend? (11-12 may).

Can't offer much advise, but I have hunted Indian Valley in the past, never had any success, but with the fires that went through there last year, the pigs should be feeding on the new growth that is coming up around Walker Ridge. I haven't been up there since the fires and am interested in your report. It's mostly very thick scrub manzanita so I'd try and find a ridge that you can set up and glass down.
Best of luck,

Hey bud,
I invited my friend hunting with me but he's in a wheel chair.. He's paralyzed from the waist down so................ I don't think we'll be going to Cache Creek or Indian Valley.. Looking at the topo it doesn't seem moderate enough for a chair.

I think we may end up going to FHL because at least there we can drive around the training areas.. but please if anyone has some suggestions please let me know. In the past we've been able to find places to hunt where we can overlook a large area and set up on a ridge or something similar.. Suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Well, my friend had some trouble sighting in his rifle yesterday and decided to postpone his hunting trip. This left me with a last minute decision to make on where to hunt (and I literally didn't make up my mind until I was pulling out of the gas station this morning on my way to.... I decided on Cache Creek). I got there around 10am (late start due to a late night packing and getting stuff ready) and my thinking was I could scout around during the day and find a place to hole up and wait in the evening when the pigs become more active. I left around 11:30.. I followed the creek (which had water running) for about 1/2-3/4 mile looking for any sign of pigs moving down and there were none. I kept running into people hiking and with dogs so that, coupled with the heat (it was HOT!) I decided to leave and just wait until the evening. After talking to a guy at a local gun store who informed me that the hunting pressure and the human foot traffic pushes the pigs way back into the back or onto private property I decided to just call it a day and headed home.

The terrain isn't too bad, it's very managable but with the nice weather comes all the people and that, to me was really the issue. I drove up to walker ridge.. Walker Ridge is nice because you can drive way into the back (I need to double check the property lines though) but the problem with Walker Ridge is it is all thick manzaneda brush..

I stopped by the Judge Davis trail entrance, that had the lease amount of cars (2) parked out front and the terrain also looked very moderate. If I go back it will probably be to this side of the trail.
